Are you an ambitious Engineering professional looking to take the next step in your career? Look no further! Capital Power Corporation is seeking an innovative and results-oriented Senior Development Engineer to join our team.

Our Senior Development Engineer role leads technical aspects of thermal power development starting at the concept stage through front end engineering up to final investment decisions for Capital Power's thermal development portfolio. As a key team member, you will lead essential technical and engineering tasks, completing our projects with excellence. You will collaborate with internal experts and external consultants to deliver initial engineering solutions and offer crucial technical perspectives that propel our ambitious projects forward.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Leading the technical and engineering work for Capital Power's US based thermal development projects.
  • Supporting the Strategy department for evaluating technical feasibility of new technology.
  • Coordinating with internal SMEs and external consulting resources to ensure preliminary engineering deliverables meet business needs and company standards.
  • Managing and finalizing project layouts and documentation for prioritization.
  • Developing and coordinating the technical scope of work, applying internal resources or leading/managing external consultants.
  • Supporting the preparation of technical RFP documents; including technical evaluation of project specific engineering and equipment specification.
  • Recommending equipment selection and new concepts to improve performance and optimize costs.
  • Assisting in planning, estimating and scheduling of project deliverables.
  • Facilitating the creation of conceptual project layouts.
  • Providing technical inputs to other departments to facilitate project approval, permitting, business case development, construction, and operations.
  • Supporting due diligence on potential acquisition of in progress projects. Supporting the development of project execution and procurement plans. Directing multi-discipline teams to complete technical inputs.
  • Fostering relationships with customers, contractors, and third parties.
  • Providing recommendations to the Director, Development Engineering, ensuring alignment with Capital Power's strategy and maintaining effective relationships with key partners.
  • Collaborating with the estimating and operations groups to develop capital estimates, risk assessments, and compliance reviews for development projects and acquisitions.
  • Ensure cross-functional accountability and authority practices are strictly followed to achieve efficient deliverables.

What you will bring to the role:

Education:

  • Completed Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Education equivalency may be considered.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in Thermal Power Generation industry.
  • Project Management experience through FEED stage gas thermal projects or demonstrated management of multi-disciplinary engineering projects is required.
  • Experience with simple cycle vs combined cycle projects as well as repowering, conversions, and brownfield thermal expansion projects
  • Familiar with technical best practices, environmental permitting, laws and regulations pertaining to power plant operations and construction.
  • Technical coordination experience for gas turbine equipment procurement interfacing with supplier and contractor technical resources.

Technical Skills:

  • Previously involved in with front end engineering, permitting, detailed design, construction of thermal power plants.
  • Strong understanding of project economic drivers.
  • Good understanding of costs involved in the operation and construction of power generation facilities.
  • Knowledge of software applications for power plant performance layout and performance modeling.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible travel to meet business users at existing facilities or potential development sites.
  • Successful candidate must be located in Phoenix, Arizona or Washington, DC

Additional Details

The pay range for this position is $128,000.00 to $141,000.00.

The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications and prior relevant experience.

This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement benefits, paid time off, and annual bonus.

The successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check.
