Join Our Team as a Power Modeling Engineer Intern!

At The Energy Authority (TEA), our interns are treated as valued members of the team. As a Power Modeling Engineer Intern, you'll work alongside industry experts to develop and enhance power system models, analyze transmission networks, forecast energy prices, and explore the rapidly evolving energy landscape. From renewable generation and battery storage to transmission planning and market optimization, you'll gain hands-on experience solving the kinds of challenges that shape the future of the electric grid.

To maximize your learning and project ownership, interns must be available for a minimum commitment of two semesters (up to one year).

• Work on real projects that directly influence energy market forecasting and decision-making.
• Gain hands-on experience with power system modeling, production cost models, and optimal power flow (OPF).
• Collaborate with experienced engineers and analysts who are passionate about mentoring the next generation of talent.
• Develop highly sought-after technical skills in programming, analytics, and power system simulation.
• Build solutions that improve forecasting accuracy and support strategic decisions for utilities across North America.
• Be part of a collaborative team where curiosity, innovation, and continuous learning are encouraged every day.

• Assist in refining and maintaining network models across multiple energy markets.
• Research and integrate datasets used in optimal power flow (OPF) and production cost modeling.
• Develop and maintain a repository of transmission upgrades to improve network model accuracy.
• Automate simulation schedules and workflows to evaluate system sensitivities more efficiently.

• Evaluate how new generation, battery storage, transmission projects, and large electrical loads influence future energy prices.
• Support the development of standardized reporting for impact studies and modeling results.

• Partner with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to improve model quality and analytical processes.
• Present findings and technical insights in a clear and meaningful way to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power/Energy Systems) or Operations Research.
• Candidates pursuing a Master's degree are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Coursework focused on power systems, optimal power flow, production cost modeling, or energy markets is preferred.

• Experience programming in at least one language such as Python or R.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Interest in power system modeling, optimization, or energy market analysis.
