Job description

Job Overview
Our Connectors Business Unit in Leeds, AL is looking for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer with strong experience working in a foundry environment (i.e. Green Sand), who will lead capital projects as the main point of contact for multiple functional areas and processes. Will be responsible for machine selection, cell layout, financial justification, working with quality and product engineering to build and update control plans and engineering requirements, overall timeline management, installation of equipment and production startup.
The expectation is to take a lead role within our Foundries and make an immediate positive impact.
A Day In The Life
  • Support a variety of foundry processes including molding, melting, pouring, shakeout, and sand systems with troubleshooting and driving Continuous Improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with quality and product engineering on gating/riser design, metallurgy, and casting defect analysis
  • Compile project update reports and present to upper management concerning project timeline, budget and estimated completion dates of projects
  • Build and optimize manufacturing processes for the improvement of existing products and the introduction of new ones using Lean Engineering Tools
  • Assist in developing and implementing cost reduction initiatives through Continuous Improvement (kaizen) events
  • Lead troubleshooting activities for various foundry process issues that arise
  • Monitor and improve sand system performance, metal chemistry, and pour processes
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior level engineers

What will help you thrive in this role?
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • Must have 5-8 years' experience in Manufacturing, preferably in a green sand foundry environment
  • Experience leading multi-functional teams and running multiple projects to completion simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Demonstrated success in justification of capital projects in excess of $1M
  • Knowledge of quality tools (SPC, FMEA, root cause analysis)
  • Knowledge of foundry processes and casting design principles
  • Must have the ability to travel up to 10%
