AES Indiana - NERC Compliance Engineer (Power Generation)

Position Summary

AES Indiana is seeking a detail-oriented and proactiveNERC Compliance Engineerto ensure our power generation operations meet allNorth American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)andRegional Entitystandards. These generation assets include a fleet of renewable and thermal units. This role is critical in safeguarding the reliability of the Bulk Electric System (BES) by managing compliance programs, supporting audits, and collaborating with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, interpret, and implement applicableNERC Reliability Standardsfor generation facilities.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute compliance programs, procedures, and documentation in collaboration with NERC Compliance team.
  • Support and assist coordination ofNERC and Regional Entity audits, spot checks, and self-certifications.
  • Analyze protection system settings, generator performance models, and operational data to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with plant engineers and operators to integrate compliance requirements into design changes, maintenance, and operational practices.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, evidence, and reporting in accordance with AES and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to plant personnel on compliance obligations.
  • Collaborate with NERC Compliance Team in tracking regulatory changes and assessing their impact on AES Indiana's generation fleet.
  • Collect and submit Quarterly NERC GADS data to MISO.
  • Coordinate Annual MISO Generator Capacity Testing and timely submission of test data.
  • Provide Operations Electrical Engineering support as needed

  • FAC- Facility Design, Connections, and Maintenance (ie.FAC-001, FAC-002)
  • MOD- Modeling, Data, and Analysis (ie.MOD-025, MOD-026, MOD-027)
  • VAR- Voltage and Reactive Control (ie.VAR-002)
  • GOP- Generator Operators (ie. COM-001)
  • IRO- Interconnection Reliability Operations (ie. TOP-001 and IRO-001)
  • CIP- Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP-002 through CIP-013, as applicable to generation assets)
  • BAL- Resource and Demand Balancing (ie. BAL-001, BAL-003)
  • EOP- Emergency Preparedness and Operations (ie. EOP-004, EOP-005,EOP-012)

Qualifications

  • Education:Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Experience:3+ years in power generation, transmission, or NERC compliance roles.
  • Strong knowledge ofNERC O&P (Operations & Planning)andCIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection)standards.
  • Familiarity with generator protection systems, control systems, and performance modeling.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills

  • NERC Compliance Certification with Generation Focus on renewable and thermal assets.
  • Experience with compliance management software tools.
  • Prior participation in NERC audits or investigations.
  • Ability to see tasks through to completion without significant guidance
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and writing skills, technical and non-technical
