What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Power engineers, especially those in senior or executive roles within large energy or utility companies, can earn $300,000 or more annually. High salaries are often associated with extensive experience, specialized skills, certifications, and leadership responsibilities in complex industrial environments.

Can you make $500,000 as an electrical engineer?

Electrical engineers, including those in power engineering, can potentially earn $500,000 or more annually, typically through senior roles, management positions, or consulting work in high-demand industries. Achieving this level often requires extensive experience, advanced certifications, specialized skills, and working in regions with high salary standards. Most entry- and mid-level positions do not reach this income level.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Power Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Power Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering principles, power systems analysis, and a relevant engineering degree, often with a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Familiarity with industry-standard software like ETAP, MATLAB, and SCADA systems, as well as knowledge of grid codes and safety regulations, is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and teamwork are critical soft skills in this field. These competencies ensure reliable power generation and distribution, compliance with safety standards, and successful collaboration on complex engineering projects.

Do power engineers make a lot of money?

What is the difference between Power Engineering vs Electrical Engineering?

AspectPower EngineeringElectrical Engineering
CertificationsProfessional Engineer (PE), Power Engineering licensesPE, Electrical Engineering licenses
Work EnvironmentPower plants, energy generation, transmissionDesign, electronics, control systems, various industries
Industry UsagePrimarily in energy, utilities, and power sectorsBroadly across electronics, telecommunications, manufacturing

Power Engineering focuses on the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical power, often working in energy plants and utility companies. Electrical Engineering has a broader scope, including electronics, control systems, and various industries. While both roles require similar certifications and work environments, Power Engineering specializes in power systems, making it ideal for careers in energy and utilities.

What is power engineering?

Power engineering is a branch of electrical engineering that focuses on the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electric power. Power engineers work with systems and equipment that produce and deliver electricity, ensuring that it is reliable and efficient. This field involves designing power plants, managing renewable energy sources, maintaining electrical grids, and improving energy efficiency in various industries. Power engineers play a critical role in supporting modern infrastructure and the transition to sustainable energy solutions.

What are some common challenges faced by power engineers when working on large-scale energy projects?

Power engineers often encounter challenges such as coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, managing tight project timelines, and ensuring compliance with stringent safety and regulatory standards. They must also address technical issues related to grid reliability, integration of renewable energy sources, and evolving technology requirements. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential to navigate these complexities and deliver successful project outcomes.

What do you do as a power engineer?

A power engineer designs, operates, and maintains electrical power systems, including generators, transformers, and distribution equipment. They ensure the reliable and efficient supply of electricity, often working with control systems, safety protocols, and industry standards. Certification and technical knowledge of electrical systems are typically required for this role.

Job description

About Us
Array Labs builds advanced radar systems to help humanity understand and respond to changes across the physical world.

We're launching a coordinated fleet of radar satellites to create a high-resolution 3D map of the Earth, updated in real time, enabling faster, smarter decision-making for government and commercial organizations supporting disaster response, infrastructure resilience, and mission-critical geopolitical intelligence.

We design and build our satellites end-to-end, producing the world's most advanced earth observation satellites. Our fleet will deliver unprecedented levels of accuracy, coverage, and responsiveness to power critical insights precisely where they're needed most.

About the Job
As an Engineering Program Manager, you will own the execution framework that turns Array Labs' engineering roadmaps and company priorities into delivered programs. You will build and maintain the schedules, dependencies, and milestone structure that keep our satellite missions and government contracts moving on time, and you will resolve the resource conflicts that inevitably arise across a portfolio of concurrent efforts. You will work closely with engineering leadership, functional managers, systems engineering, and responsible engineers, and partner directly with the executive team on prioritization, staffing, and bid decisions.

As part of our quickly growing team, you will own the on-time delivery of our mission-critical hardware and software that will significantly improve humanity's ability to rapidly and comprehensively understand our changing planet.
Responsibilities
  • Define and communicate clear program structure, scope, and milestones
  • Build and maintain schedules for projects and programs
  • Drive coordination across teams to keep deliverables moving
  • Identify resource needs and negotiate staffing with functional managers
  • Surface risks early and propose practical mitigations
  • Translate engineering roadmaps into concrete release items and execution plans
  • Support planning for new efforts, including staffing, cost estimates, schedule assumptions, and resource utilization
  • Help leadership make better prioritization and bid / no-bid decisions
Basic Qualifications
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience supporting complex, high-stakes technical programs with a track record of delivering integrated hardware/software systems
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new, highly technical concepts rapidly and independently in a fast-paced environment
  • A high level of personal accountability and the "whatever it takes" attitude required to hit mission-critical deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to bridge the gap between deep-tech engineering details and executive-level strategy
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Hands-on experience in the design, development, integration, or test of electronic or mechanical hardware systems
  • Experience with scripting (Python, SQL) or data visualization tools to automate program metrics and performance tracking
  • Proven success in a high-growth, ambiguous, or "clean-sheet" hardware environment
  • Familiarity or experience with the aerospace industry or exposure to development of safety-critical hardware systems
Compensation & Benefits
Our hiring and compensation strategy is simple: find uncommonly good people and pay them uncommonly well.

We offer high flexibility between salary and equity-based compensation. Final candidates can choose from three compensation mixes: low, medium, or high equity. Equity is a significant component of total compensation, and we aim to provide meaningful ownership for this role.

Full-time employees also enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, a 401(k) with company match, commuter benefits, and more.

Interview Process
We will conduct interviews via Google Meet with the potential for an onsite visit; the typical process takes around 3-5 weeks to complete from start to finish.

Why Join Array
At Array Labs, deep technical expertise meets relentless impact. We prioritize curiosity over hierarchy and bold engineering over incremental gains. Our world-class team across hardware engineering, software, and aerospace works collaboratively to push boundaries and move fast.

Our values:
  1. Build What Matters: Create technology that serves customers and advances humanity
  2. Innovate Together: Stay curious, collaborate openly, push boundaries as one team
  3. Employee Centric: Put our people first with a culture of trust, respect, and opportunity
  4. Join industry-leading experts to deliver unprecedented insights about our planet and build the future of Earth observation.
