We are seeking aย Principal Power Electronics Engineerย I (2025538) to join ourย growingย spacecraft payload developmentย team.ย In this position, you willย contribute across the entire development lifecycleย ofย next-generationย power electronicsย hardware for satellites and space power systemsย payloads-fromย leading the definition ofย powerย systemย architectures and trade studies to detailed circuit design, simulation,ย printed circuit board (PCB)ย layout, verification and integration testing,ย production transition,ย and manufacturing support.ย 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define electrical power system architecture, and derive power subsystem requirementsย ย ย 

  • Designย DC-DCย power converters,ย motor drives,ย inverters,ย powerย managementย and control circuitsย fromย concept toย productionย releaseย 

  • Perform detailed design forย low to highย complexity analog and power electronics circuits ranging from single DC-DC power converters to multi-output power supply modulesย ย 

  • Perform modeling andย analysisย of analog and power electronics designs includingย worst-case circuit analysisย (WCA),ย stress analysis, small signal modelingย analysis,ย failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), reliability analysis,ย and power integrity analysisย 

  • Develop design verificationย testย plans, requirement compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plansย forย power converters and power supply designsย 

  • Leadย boardย bring-up and design verification testing of power electronics circuits andย modulesย ย 

  • Lead systemย integration,ย qualification campaigns, and releaseย ofย analog and power electronics designsย into productionย 

  • Mentor younger engineersย and foster knowledge sharingย 

  • Lead a small team of power electronics engineers to drive project executionย ย 

  • Perform research andย monitorย power electronics industry trends to drive innovation andย generateย intellectual propertyย in this areaย 

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in Electrical Engineeringย (or related)ย from an accredited university.ย 

  • Minimum ofย 9ย years of experienceย designing analogย andย power electronicsย ย 

  • Experienceย working with electrical power systemsย andย subsystems, includingย developingย power architecture andย power requirements,ย performingย trade studiesย for size, weight, power, and costย optimization (SWAP-C),ย selectingย power converterย topologies,ย andย definingย power management and controlย blocksย ย 

  • Experienceย with modeling and controlย ofย DC-DC convertersย and power stageย design ofย differentย isolated and non-isolatedย DC-DC power convertersย (e.g.ย discreteย linear regulators,ย Buck,ย Boost,ย Buck-boost,ย Flyback,ย Forward,ย Half-bridge,ย Full bridge,ย andย Resonant converters)ย ย 

  • Experience designing customย signal and powerย magnetics,ย andย powerย filters for low noise and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)ย 

  • Experience developing design verification test plans, requirement compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plansย ย 

  • Experience performingย worst-case circuit analysis (WCA), stress analysis, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA),ย and reliability analysis for power suppliesย ย ย 

  • Extensive hands-on experience with testing and troubleshooting electronics and power converters using laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and signal generatorsย 

  • Experience with electronics schematic capture and printed circuit board (PCB) layout tools such as Altium, OrCAD, Allegro orย Xpeditionย ย 

  • Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTSPICE,ย SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB,ย MathCAD, ANSYS Q3D andย SiWave, orย HyperLynxย ย 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsย 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Master of Science or PhDย in Electrical Engineering with research focusย in power electronicsย ย 

  • Experience designing high-reliability analog and power electronics forย automotive,ย space or defense applicationsย 

  • Knowledge of space radiation environmentsย and radiation effects in electronicsย 

  • Experience in power electronics applications utilizingย GaNย orย SiCย wide bandgap power semiconductor devicesย 

  • Experience running board-level power integrity simulation using tools such as Ansysย SiWave, orย HyperLynxย 

  • Experience withย soft switching and resonant power converter topologies (e.g.ย LLC, CLLC, series resonant, phase shifted full bridge, dual active bridge, etc.)ย 

  • Experienceย with power stage design forย inverters and motor drivesย ย 

  • Knowledge ofย modeling and control of inverters and motor drivesย ย 

  • Experience withย advanced control schemes for DC-DC power converters (e.g.ย voltage mode with feedforward control, constant on-time control, V2ย constant on-time control, phase shift modulation, average current mode control)ย 

  • Experience with isolation and grounding,ย failure mode effects analysisย and fault tolerant design,ย and thermal managementย of power electronicsย ย 

  • Programming skills to support hardware test and data processing (Python, MATLAB, etc.)ย 

  • Knowledge ofย maximum power pointย tracking (MPPT)ย for solar power applications,ย battery sizing and battery management systems,ย power conversion forย electric propulsion systems, power conditioning,ย powerย management, andย powerย distributionย unitsย for spacecraft technologyย ย 

  • Experienceย designing and testingย power electronics unitsย to meetย industry standards and requirementsย in theย automotive, industrial, space orย militaryย marketsย (e.g.,ย FCC, CISPR, ULย safety,ย ECSS, NASA, MIL standards)ย
