As a member of a project team, the Graduate Civil Engineer will perform engineering and design duties, which require application of engineering principles. Assignments are closely supervised and designed to further develop employee's job knowledge and abilities

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions: 

  • Work with a project team to create or modify all civil and structural design documents and drawings for a project, under direct supervision. 

  • Perform engineering support tasks such as wind load calculations and structural analysis, with minimal supervision. 

  • Learn and apply engineering standards including NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC and ACI. 

  • Learn and properly use the document management system. 

  • Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices. 

  • Spend time at job sites to gain hands-on knowledge and additional training in substation construction and design. 

  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work. 

  • Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party. 

  • Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments. 

  • Other duties as required. 

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Take ownership of your work - double-check calculations and drawings before submitting, and catch errors before they become someone else's problem. 

  • Learn the "why" behind engineering standards and codes (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI), not just the requirements, to build real design judgment. 

  • Spend time at job sites to connect your designs to real-world construction, and bring proposed solutions along with any problems you raise. 

  • Master the document management system and corporate engineering practices, and say yes to travel and additional assignments to build credibility fast. 

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required, a power focus is preferred. Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain EIT certificate within one year of date of hire is required. Prior internship and/or related work experience in the power field is preferred. 

Possess skills in the following areas: 

  • Knowledge of steel and concrete design. 

  • Basic knowledge of structural analysis. 

  • Knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail software. 

  • Working in a team environment. 

  • Communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, etc. 

Physical Requirements:   

  • Ability to sit for extended periods during computer-based work. 

  • Ability to stand and walk intermittently throughout the workday. 

  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. 

  • Occasional travel to other offices or meeting locations. 

Environmental Conditions 

  • Primarily climate-controlled office environment. 

  • Occasional exposure to field or industrial environments during site visits. 

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods during computer-based work. 

  • Ability to stand and walk intermittently throughout the workday. 

  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. 

  • Occasional travel to other offices or meeting locations.
