A Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and managing data platforms and tools that enable efficient processing, analysis, and utilization of large-scale data. This role focuses on developing scalable data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and supporting the deployment of advanced analytics and machine learning solutions into production environments.


This individual partners closely with business and technical teams to enhance data models, improve accessibility, and drive data-informed decision-making. The role supports both real-time and batch processing capabilities and translates complex business requirements into scalable, high-performing data solutions.


Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain real-time and batch data pipelines to process large volumes of data
  • Build and support tools for data ingestion, transformation, curation, and provisioning across first- and third-party data sources
  • Develop advanced data products and APIs to enable analytics, reporting, and data science use cases
  • Monitor system performance, conduct testing, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements
  • Lead data analysis efforts and design data architectures that support business intelligence, AI/ML, and data product initiatives
  • Design and implement scalable data platform architectures that meet organizational needs for performance, flexibility, and reliability
  • Ensure solutions meet operational requirements such as scalability, maintainability, extensibility, and data integrity
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to team members
  • Lead code reviews and promote best practices, including test-driven development and CI/CD


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, including full-stack data capabilities
  • 10+ years of experience in software development or programming
  • 5+ years of experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Strong SQL expertise and data querying skills


Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python and experience with CI/CD practices
  • Experience with machine learning pipelines and production deployment (preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Spark, Fabric or similar technologies)
  • Strong background in infrastructure and cloud-based data architectures
  • Experience designing and building data pipelines for big data, NoSQL, and data warehouse solutions
  • Familiarity with real-time streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Event Hub or similar)
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, messaging systems, and integration patterns
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native data services (e.g., data lakes, ETL tools, streaming services, analytics platforms)
  • Strong expertise in data architecture and data modeling
  • Experience implementing data quality frameworks and data governance practices
  • Familiarity with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau or similar)

  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to occasionally support off-hours work as needed
