What You'll Contribute

Sallie Mae is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Microsoft 365 Cloud Engineer to join our Workplace Engineering team. This role is responsible for the architecture, implementation, administration, governance, and operational support of the Microsoft 365 platform, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Power Platform, Power BI, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise across Microsoft cloud services and a strong background in automation, security, compliance, and operational excellence. This individual will partner with business stakeholders, security teams, architects, and vendors to deliver innovative collaboration, productivity, and AI‑powered solutions that support Sallie Mae’s digital workplace strategy. The Senior M365 Cloud Engineer will play a key role in enabling secure adoption of emerging Microsoft technologies while ensuring compliance with financial services regulatory requirements.

What You'll DoMicrosoft 365 Platform Engineering
  • Design, implement, and support enterprise Microsoft 365 services.
  • Administer and optimize Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Power Platform, and Copilot environments.
  • Develop and maintain operational standards, governance controls, and platform roadmaps.
  • Evaluate and implement new Microsoft 365 features and capabilities to improve employee productivity and collaboration.
  • Provide Tier 3 technical support and escalation assistance for complex platform issues.
Exchange Online Administration
  • Manage Exchange Online architecture, mail flow, messaging security, transport rules, mail routing, and mailbox lifecycle processes.
  • Configure and support retention policies, email compliance requirements, and messaging governance controls.
  • Troubleshoot advanced issues involving client connectivity, mail delivery, authentication, and hybrid integrations.
  • Monitor messaging service health, capacity, and performance.
SharePoint Online Engineering
  • Design and administer SharePoint Online sites, information architecture, permissions models, and content governance policies.
  • Partner with business units to optimize collaboration, document management, and knowledge-sharing solutions.
  • Implement governance controls for site provisioning, external sharing, lifecycle management, and data protection.
  • Support migrations, modernization initiatives, and platform optimization efforts.
Power Platform & Power BI
  • Design, build, and support solutions leveraging: Power Apps Power Automate Power BI Dataverse

  • Create dashboards, reports, and executive-level analytics that support operational and strategic decision‑making.
  • Establish Power Platform governance, security, and environment management practices.
Microsoft365 Copilot & AI Enablement
  • Support deployment, administration, and governance of Microsoft 365 Copilot.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify and implement AI‑driven productivity use cases.
  • Configure Copilot controls, permissions, and policy settings to ensure secure and compliant use.
  • Evaluate and support Copilot agents, Copilot Studio solutions, and future Microsoft AI capabilities.
  • Monitor adoption, usage trends, and business value realization metrics.
  • Provide guidance on AI governance practices within a regulated financial services environment.
Security, Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure Microsoft 365 environments align with Sallie Mae security standards and regulatory requirements.
Automation & Operational Excellence
  • Develop PowerShell and Microsoft Graph automation solutions.
  • Create monitoring, reporting, and operational dashboards.
  • Drive continuous service improvement initiatives through automation and process optimization.
  • Maintain operational documentation, architecture standards, and technical procedures.

What You Have

Minimum: Indicate minimum education, skills and experience required.

  • 5+ years of experience supporting Microsoft 365 cloud technologies with at least 3+ years of hands‑on experience providing subject‑matter expert support for Exchange Online and SharePoint Online.
  • Experience administering Microsoft Power Platform administration and solution development.
  • Experience creating reports and dashboards using PowerBI.
  • Proven experience deploying, administering, or supporting Microsoft365 Copilot.
  • Experience configuring Microsoft EntraID, Conditional Access, and identity governance controls.
  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
  • Experience implementing Microsoft365 security, compliance, and governance solutions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements common to financial services organizations.
  • Experience leading technical projects and collaborating across multiple teams.
Preferred
  • Microsoft M365 Certification(s)
  • Experience with Copilot Studio and AI‑powered automation solutions.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Graph APIs.
  • Experience with SharePoint migrations and information architecture design.
  • Experience with cloud governance, risk management, and compliance programs.
  • Experience developing enterprise Power Platform solutions utilizing Dataverse.
