Job description

Description:

The Poultry Account Manager is a dynamic, field-based commercial role responsible for driving growth within the layer segment of the poultry industry. This position combines deep nutritional expertise with a modern, consultative approach to sales – building trusted partnerships with commercial egg producers, pullet growers, feed mills, and integrated poultry companies.

You will be the face of Devenish in your territory: proactively identifying new business opportunities, delivering science-backed solutions, and using technology to provide a customer experience that sets Devenish apart from the competition. This is not just a selling role – it is a strategic partnership role for someone who genuinely cares about flock performance, producer profitability, and the future of sustainable egg production.

Core Responsibilities

Business Development & Territory Growth

  • Identify, target, and convert prospective layer accounts – including commercial egg operations, cage-free and specialty producers, pullet growers, and feed mill customers.
  • Build and manage a robust sales pipeline ensuring consistent follow-up and accurate forecasting.
  • Develop customized proposals and ROI-focused presentations that clearly articulate the value of Devenish nutritional programs.

Customer Partnership & Retention

  • Serve as the primary relationship contact for existing layer accounts, delivering proactive check-ins, flock visits, and performance reviews.
  • Understand each customer’s production system, performance benchmarks, and business goals to recommend the most relevant Devenish products and services.
  • Respond rapidly to customer needs through a combination of in-person visits, virtual consultations, and digital communication tools.

Technical Consultation & Nutritional Support

  • Develop a comprehensive working knowledge of Devenish’s full ingredient and supplement portfolio, with emphasis on layer-specific solutions (hen day production, egg quality, feed conversion, gut health, bone integrity).
  • Partner with Devenish nutritionists and technical specialists to co-develop customized feed programs and trials.
  • Translate complex nutritional science into clear, practical recommendations that resonate with producers at every level of sophistication.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Customer Service, Operations, Logistics, and Accounting to ensure seamless order fulfillment and superior customer experience.
  • Collaborate with the broader Poultry Team to share market intelligence, identify cross-territory synergies, and contribute to new product development initiatives.
  • Provide field-level feedback on product performance, competitive activity, and emerging producer needs to inform Devenish’s commercial strategy.

Technology as a Competitive Advantage:

At Devenish, we believe the best account managers are also skilled technology users. In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Maintain records to track customer interactions, pipeline activity, and follow-up cadences.
  • Use digital nutritional modeling tools to build data-backed feed programs tailored to each layer operation.
  • Deliver virtual consultations, webinars, and remote flock health reviews using video and collaboration platforms.
  • Share real-time performance data, trial results, and ROI reporting via digital dashboards and customer-facing portals.
  • Stay current with precision poultry technologies (flock monitoring systems, egg quality analytics, etc.) to speak the language of today’s layer producers.

Administrative & Reporting Expectations:

  • Maintain up-to-date records including customer profiles, call logs, opportunity stages, and competitive intelligence.
  • Submit accurate sales forecasts and territory business reviews on a regular cadence as defined by management.
  • Utilize company-provided digital tools for expense reporting, sample tracking, and internal communication.
  • Participate in product training, industry events, and Devenish team meetings to stay at the forefront of layer nutrition and poultry industry trends.

What We Offer:

  • A collaborative, innovation-driven culture built on science and partnership.
  • Competitive base salary plus performance-based incentives.
  • Full benefits package including health, dental, vision, and retirement.
  • Vehicle allowance plus fuel reimbursement for business travel.
  • Ongoing professional development, product training, and access to Devenish’s global R&D resources.
  • A genuine opportunity to grow your career alongside a company that is shaping the future of animal nutrition.
Requirements:

Core Skills & Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of layer nutrition, poultry physiology, and egg production systems.
  • Understanding of feed ingredients, premix formulation, and supplement technologies.
  • Strong commercial acumen – ability to identify opportunities, build proposals, and close business.
  • Exceptional communicator – confident presenting to producers, nutritionists, and executives alike.
  • Self-directed with outstanding territory and time management skills.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative, solutions-first mindset.

Technology & Tools

  • Comfort using digital collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, shared dashboards).
  • Ability to interpret and present data-driven performance reports to customers.
  • Openness to adopting new Agri-tech and precision poultry tools as they emerge.
  • Experience with digital trial documentation or farm management platforms is a plus.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in poultry nutrition, layer production, or agricultural sales.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Nutrition, Agriculture Business, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Established network of contacts within the commercial egg or pullet industry.
  • Track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a territory-based role.
