Position Overview
The Arizona Irrigation Specialist owns practical irrigation execution and infrastructure awareness for PGH's Arizona potato fields. This role sits at the intersection of crop water needs and the physical systems that deliver water: deep wells, pumps, center pivots, pressure, uniformity, and daily follow-through. PGH needs someone who can help ensure the right amount of water gets applied at the righttimeand that system problems are caught before the crop pays the price.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and verify irrigation schedules based on crop stage, soil moisture, weather, ET, and agronomy input.
- Monitor soil moisture, crop stress, application timing, pressure, pivot performance, and field conditions.
- Inspect center pivots, wells, pumps, motors, panels, controls, nozzles, leaks, and related infrastructure for operating issues.
- Escalate water supply, pressure, uniformity, pump, pivot, electrical, or crop stress issues the same day they appear.
- Maintainirrigation records showing what was planned, what happened, and what changed.
- Coordinate with agronomy, maintenance, operators, and farm leadership to keep water execution aligned with crop needs.
- Support preventive maintenance routines and basic troubleshooting for irrigation infrastructure.
What Success Looks Like
- Irrigation events are completed on time, at the correct duration, pressure, and uniformity.
- Pivot, pump, well, and pressure issues are caught early.
- Soil moisture ismaintainedwithin target ranges by field and crop stage.
- Irrigation records are current,accurate, and useful for management review.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of irrigation, crop water management, pump/well, center pivot, farm operations, or infrastructure experience preferred.
- Strong practical understanding of soil moisture, water timing, pressure, application uniformity, and crop stage water needs.
- Experience with center pivots, deep wells, pumps, telemetry, field sensors, or irrigation maintenancestronglypreferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize system problems before they become failures.
- Comfort using field maps, records, spreadsheets, irrigation notes, or simple reporting tools.
- Valid driver's licenserequired.
Work Environment and Seasonality
This role is based in Willcox, Arizona. Work is primarily field-based and includes heat, dust, long days, early starts, equipment movement, and seasonal urgency. Planting, irrigation,harvest, and critical maintenance windows may require extended hours and weekend work.
