How much do postdoctoral yeast jobs pay per year?

As of May 28, 2026, the average yearly pay for postdoctoral yeast in the United States is $59,022.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $49,000.00 and $66,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in yeast studies, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Postdoctoral Researcher in yeast studies, you need a Ph.D. in a relevant field (such as molecular biology, genetics, or biochemistry) and expertise in yeast genetics and laboratory techniques. Familiarity with molecular cloning, CRISPR gene editing, next-generation sequencing platforms, and bioinformatics tools is often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help distinguish top researchers in collaborative environments. Mastery of these skills and tools enables impactful research, reliable data generation, and successful scientific advancement in this specialized area.

What are some common challenges faced by postdoctoral researchers working with yeast, and how can they be addressed?

Postdoctoral researchers working with yeast often encounter challenges such as optimizing genetic manipulation techniques, troubleshooting unexpected experimental results, and managing large datasets from high-throughput experiments. Collaboration with colleagues and leveraging lab meetings are crucial for troubleshooting and sharing best practices. Staying current with the latest protocols and bioinformatics tools can also help overcome technical obstacles. Additionally, time management is key, as balancing benchwork, data analysis, and manuscript preparation is often required.

What is a Postdoctoral Yeast researcher?

A Postdoctoral Yeast researcher is a scientist who has completed their PhD and is conducting advanced research focused on yeast, often within the fields of molecular biology, genetics, or biotechnology. Their work may involve studying yeast as a model organism to understand fundamental biological processes or developing yeast strains for applications in medicine, industry, or agriculture. Postdoctoral researchers typically work in academic or research institutions, contributing to ongoing projects and publishing their findings. This position is usually temporary and helps scientists gain further expertise before pursuing permanent academic or industry roles.

Overview

We're looking to recruit a postdoc to our new lab at the RNA Therapeutics Institute. We study how RNA folding shapes gene expression, evolution, and disease by applying high-throughput experimental approaches (massively parallel assays, library design & construction, RNA structure probing, ...).

Responsibilities

The Scharfen lab uses high-throughput experimental and computational methods to study
causes and consequences of RNA structure formation. Our approaches are drawn from
fields including genomics, data science, systems biology, and biochemistry. We study RNA
structure mainly in vivo, using E. coli, yeast, and tissue culture cells as model systems.

Qualifications
    PhD
  • Strong candidates will be experienced wet-lab scientists who want to develop ambitious high-throughput experiments at the interface of biochemistry, genomics, and computation.
