Postdoctoral Position In Poultry information

What is a postdoctoral position in poultry?

A postdoctoral position in poultry is a research-focused role typically held by individuals who have recently completed their doctoral studies (Ph.D.) in fields related to animal science, veterinary medicine, or biology. These positions allow researchers to further develop their expertise in poultry science, including topics like genetics, nutrition, disease prevention, and management. Postdocs often work on funded research projects, publish scientific articles, and may mentor graduate or undergraduate students. The experience gained during a postdoctoral position can help prepare individuals for academic, industry, or government careers in poultry science.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a postdoctoral position in poultry?

To excel as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Poultry Science, you need a Ph.D. in animal science or a related field, strong research and data analysis skills, and an in-depth understanding of poultry biology. Experience with laboratory techniques, statistical software (such as SAS or R), and research methodologies is typically required. Excellent communication, project management, and teamwork abilities help in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and presenting findings. These skills and qualifications are essential for advancing research, publishing results, and driving innovation in poultry science.

What types of research projects and collaboration opportunities can a postdoctoral position in poultry expect, and how do these experiences contribute to career advancement?

In a Postdoctoral Position in Poultry, you will typically engage in a variety of research projects ranging from animal nutrition and disease management to genetics and welfare studies. Collaboration is common with multidisciplinary teams, including faculty members, graduate students, and sometimes industry partners, which can expand your professional network and expose you to real-world challenges. These experiences not only build your technical and project management skills but also enhance your publication record and grant-writing expertise—key assets for advancing to academic, government, or industry leadership roles.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigate immunobiology, immunometabolism, and cancer immunology focusing on metabolic regulation of the immune system.

  • Apply interdisciplinary strategies including immunological, genetic, and systems immunology approaches such as in vivo CRISPR screening, single-cell transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and network reconstruction.

  • Contribute to understanding the metabolic pathways, signaling pathways, and regulatory networks that influence T cell and dendritic cell biology and antitumor immunity.

Job description

Immunology postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Hongbo Chi's laboratory in the Department of Immunology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Chi lab investigates immunobiology, immunometabolism and cancer immunology, by focusing on metabolic regulation of the immune system and the therapeutic impacts on cancer and other diseases. As metabolic pathways are inextricably connected to immunity and cancer, understanding these connections allows us to gain new insights into biological concepts and disease targets. We are particularly interested in investigating the metabolic programs (e.g. amino acid and lipid metabolism), signaling pathways (e.g. mTOR and nutrient signaling), and systems-level regulatory networks that regulate basic T cell and dendritic cell biology and antitumor immunity. To this end, we apply interdisciplinary strategies by integrating immunological and genetic approaches with cutting‑edge systems immunology and functional genomics tools, including in vivo CRISPR screening, single-cell transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and network reconstruction. Former trainees of the Chi lab have been principal investigators in multiple academic institutions.
