Essential Job Duties
Support innovative research in reproductive physiology and molecular biology by providing technical expertise and laboratory support for multiple research programs. As a Research Technician, you will play an essential role in maintaining transgenic mouse colonies, conducting molecular biology experiments, and supporting faculty, students, and scientists in advancing high-quality research. This position contributes to the success of the laboratory by ensuring research activities are conducted safely, accurately, and in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities

Research & Laboratory Support
  • Perform laboratory experiments and molecular biology procedures, including genotyping assays, to support ongoing research in reproductive physiology and molecular biology.
  • Conduct animal-related procedures, including tail sampling and ear tagging, in accordance with established research protocols.
Animal Colony Management
  • Manage the transgenic mouse colony by coordinating breeding, weaning, tissue collection, colony maintenance, and accurate recordkeeping of pedigrees and colony health.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements governing the care and use of research animals.
Laboratory Operations & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with faculty, graduate students, scientists, and research staff to support multiple research projects and laboratory initiatives.
  • Maintain laboratory organization by managing research supply inventories, supporting laboratory cleanliness, and implementing laboratory safety procedures, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous, non-hazardous, and radioactive waste in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) protocols.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with research animals, preferably mice, in compliance with institutional animal care and use guidelines.
  • Experience managing or maintaining transgenic mouse colonies, including breeding, weaning, genotyping, pedigree tracking, and colony health records.
  • Experience performing molecular biology and cell culture techniques in a research laboratory setting.
  • Experience maintaining laboratory operations, including inventory management, laboratory safety practices, and the handling and disposal of hazardous, non-hazardous, and radioactive waste in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) protocols.
Required License or Certification
  • A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
