Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinates all activities between the United States postal service (USPS) and the institution.
  • Delivers and picks up all mail.
  • Receives USPS and united parcel service (ups) packages and coordinate delivery to the institutional property officer.
  • The postal center director actively directs and supervises the inspection of all mail for Contraband.
  • Maintains and interprets SCDC policies and USPS regulations concerning mail in an institutional environment.
  • Maintains records of money instruments received and/or returned.
  • Coordinates activities of E. H cooper trust fund.
  • Research records for the location of inmates in an effort to handle the mail properly.
  • Actively direct and supervises the receiving and distribution of USPS and department mail.
  • Actively directs and supervises the activities of both incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
  • Plans and schedules work assignments and employee training.
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
  • A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • An associate degree or higher with one (1) year of supervisory experience may be substituted for the required work experience.
