Job description

SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Lead General Clerk, the General Clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service to military customers by assisting customers with mail services at Nellis Air Force Base. This role is responsible for the accurate processing, sorting, tracking, and delivery of official and personal mail and packages in a military postal environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Some travel to a variety of locations in the Las Vegas area.
  2. Must be able to meet all requirements of OV vehicle policies and travel:
  • Between worksite locations
  • Within the community
  1. Deliver and distribute mail and packages throughout Nellis Air Force Base to places such as the dormitories.
  2. Utilize Microsoft Access to generate mailing labels and forward mail.
  3. Process returned mail in accordance with United States Postal Service standards.
  4. Process and document all packages into AMPS (Automated Military Postal System) for tracking.
  5. Greet postal customers in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner.
  6. Retrieve mail and packages for military customers.
  7. Assist patrons with mail-related in-processing and out-processing procedures.
  8. Sort and distribute mail by address and designated route.
  9. Process and meter outgoing mail using the Pitney Bowes mailing system.
  10. Complete all required annual training based on labor code, as well as security training through the military network.
  11. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  12. Maintain weekly and quarterly checklists for the Postal delivery van and ensure the van is clean.
  13. Manage and maintain the highest level of accuracy of mailroom functions such as sorting and distribution of official mail and postal meter procedures.
  14. Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated by state law.
  15. May be assigned other duties as needed.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: Minimum one (1) year of clerical experience.
  • Required: A minimum of (1) year of experience in a role where customer service skills are required.
  • Required: Obtain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Required: Valid Nevada Driver's License with a clean annual DMV report and must be twenty-one (21) years of age to be eligible to drive company vehicles.
  • Preferred: (1) year of verifiable work experience in a postal environment or mailroom.
