POSITION: PORTUGUESE TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Appropriate Massachusetts Teacher Licensure.
  2. Bachelor's Degree with major or minor in Portuguese and/or Spanish.
  3. Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and speak the Portuguese and/or Spanish language

REPORTS TO: School Principal
SUPERVISES: None
JOB GOAL:
To motivate each pupil to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading and writing the Portuguese/Spanish language in accordance with each pupil's ability; to interpret to pupils the culture of the countries where Portuguese/Spanish is spoken; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in Portuguese/Spanish communication.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teaches skills and knowledge in the Portuguese/Spanish language to secondary pupils utilizing course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities. Modern foreign language teachers (Portuguese/Spanish) teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing.
  2. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with basic instructional philosophy.
  3. Provides learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills, utilizing cassette recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate.
  4. Provides individualized and small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  5. Instructs pupils in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction and makes minor adjustments and requests repairs as required.
  6. Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where Portuguese/Spanish is spoken.
  7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  8. Evaluates each pupil's progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing the Portuguese/Spanish language in relationship to the level being taught.
  9. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  10. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  11. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  12. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the School Department, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities such as foreign language workshops.
  13. All other responsibilities that are listed in the collective bargaining agreement between the Fall River Educators' Association and the Fall River School Committee.

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
In accordance with the Fall River Educators' Association contract. Continued employment is contingent on work performance, program need, and funding.
