Portobello America Entry-Level Mechanic Job Description

Job Title: Entry-Level Mechanic

Employer: Portobello America

Department: Factory

Job Summary: The Entry-Level Mechanic at Portobello America is responsible for performing low-complexity mechanical maintenance activities on machines and equipment used in the ceramic production process. This role supports more experienced technicians, ensures production continuity, and allows the individual to gradually learn technical procedures, safety standards, and maintenance routines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Systems Maintenance:
    • Perform routine inspections on equipment such as mills, hydraulic presses, dryers, glazing lines, digital printers, sorting machines, autonomous vehicles, and kilns, identifying basic signs of wear or abnormalities.
    • Perform mechanical adjustments on production equipment to improve productivity.
  • Machinery and Equipment Support:
    • Assist in preventive maintenance activities, including lubrication, technical cleaning, tightening of components, and simple parts replacement.
    • Support senior mechanics in corrective maintenance tasks, including disassembly and assembly of mechanical components.
    • Monitor equipment tests after maintenance interventions.
    • Assist in organizing the mechanical workshop, including tool control, materials, and supplies.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Strictly follow safety standards, PPE requirements, and operational procedures.
    • Participate in maintenance activity planning to help anticipate undesirable situations during task execution.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Record maintenance activities in forms, spreadsheets, or internal systems.
  • Training and Development:
    • Take part in internal training sessions on ceramic equipment, production processes, and maintenance best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education and Certifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Technical course (completed or in progress) in Mechanics, Industrial Maintenance, Electromechanics, or related fields.
  • Experience:
    • Willingness to learn processes specific to the ceramic industry.
    • Availability to work in shifts, depending on operational needs.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Basic knowledge of industrial mechanics, metrology, technical drawing interpretation, and reading hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
    • Initial understanding of transmission systems, V-belt drives, synchronous belts, roller chains, worm gear reducers, flexible couplings, and gears.
    • Basic knowledge of thread types, bolt torque, and fastening systems, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic components and their applications.
    • Basic understanding of mechanical component lubrication, centrifugal pumps, industrial fans, and bearings (including types, applications, installation care, and handling).
    • Ability to analyze problems and develop logical reasoning to support troubleshooting.
    • Ability to work in a team and follow technical instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in industrial maintenance is desirable, even as an apprentice or intern.
