Job description

Porter-Starke Services, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant to work in general accounting, specifically for accounts payable and to perform a variety of accounting, clerical and bookkeeping tasks. Strong excel skills preferred.

Position is full-time, Monday-Friday at our Valparaiso location.

Porter-Starke Services, Inc. is a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) based in Valparaiso and serves northwest Indiana with additional offices in Portage, Knox, and LaPorte. Porter-Starke also operates Marram Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with offices in Gary, Hebron, Valparaiso, and Portage.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Processes financial data to maintain business records, specifically cash management, account analysis, support for accounts payable invoice processing, account reconciliation, and grant management by performing a variety of accounting, clerical and bookkeeping tasks, using accepted procedures of Porter-Starke Services, Inc. MS Excel experience is required for this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. JOB FUNCTIONS:

-Receives deposit information, and update cash daily

-Maintains and monitors tracking system for all receipts and disbursements

-Reconciles monthly bank statements

-Analyzes and interprets data

-Maintain statements and records for non-client revenue (i.e. rents, salary reimbursements, etc.).

-Sets up new users for Expense Management

-Reviews mileage/out of pocket expenses for reimbursement

-Reviews and processing of monthly credit card transactions

-Backup for Payroll Processing and Accounts Payable

-Provides support for Accounts Payable position

-Help and support to the other positions in the departments as needed

-Works with clerical employees regarding financial issues (i.e. problems with deposits, etc.).

-Assists with other duties and projects as needed.

-Provides backup for Accounts Payable and Payroll

-Provides data entry and scanning for Accounts Payable

-Maintains grants worksheets for accounting reconciliation

-Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other departments and outside vendors.

-Maintains professional decorum, work ethic and personal life to reflect positively on agency.

COMPETENCIES:

The staff member must demonstrate knowledge of:

-Accounting systems and procedures within established systems and procedures.

The staff members must demonstrate skills in:

-Calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, income and percentages. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

-Working on a personal computer, operating a calculator and other office equipment.

-Communicating effectively on the telephone.

-Prioritizing work and making routine decisions

-Typing and basic computer usage.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Bachelor's degree preferred

-0-2 years of accounting experience

-Computer experience required with knowledge of Excel and Word
