Mechanical Commissioning Engineer (Rotating & Stationary Equipment)

Location: Port Arthur, TX

We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support the startup and commissioning activities of a large-scale LNG facility in Port Arthur, Texas. This onsite assignment is anticipated to last approximately 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on project requirements. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a per diem package.

Position Overview

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the successful readiness, testing, and operational handover of mechanical systems and equipment. The position requires close collaboration with commissioning, operations, maintenance, construction, and vendor teams to verify equipment performance and resolve technical issues during startup activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for mechanical equipment throughout commissioning and startup phases.
  • Support the inspection, commissioning, and operational readiness of rotating and stationary equipment.
  • Monitor equipment testing activities and verify compliance with project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Participate in system walkdowns and identify, document, and close mechanical deficiencies.
  • Work directly with equipment suppliers and field personnel to address installation and performance concerns.
  • Investigate equipment reliability and performance issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • Verify mechanical systems are prepared for safe startup and turnover to operations.
  • Review commissioning records, test documentation, and equipment dossiers for completeness.
  • Promote adherence to site safety procedures, industry standards, and project quality requirements.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting commissioning, startup, or operational readiness activities within LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical processing, or heavy industrial facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, and blowers.
  • Familiarity with stationary mechanical equipment including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, condensers, and associated systems.
  • Experience coordinating with OEMs or vendors during equipment installation, testing, and startup.
  • Ability to interpret engineering documentation, including P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment specifications, and commissioning procedures.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills in an operating or construction environment.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic field setting with evolving priorities and schedules.

Assignment Information

  • Location: Port Arthur, Texas
  • Term: Approximately one year, with possible extension or adjustment based on project needs
  • Work Arrangement: Full-time onsite role
  • Hours: Additional overtime may be required during key commissioning and startup periods
  • Per Diem: Available for eligible candidates based on assignment terms and qualifications

Who Will Succeed in This Role

The ideal candidate enjoys working in fast-paced commissioning environments and has a hands-on approach to solving mechanical challenges. Success in this position requires strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and equipment vendors, and a commitment to safe and reliable startup execution. Candidates who excel at troubleshooting newly commissioned equipment and maintaining a strong operational focus will be particularly well-suited for this role.
