Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Class A Port Driver to transport containerized freight to and from the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. The ideal candidate has experience operating tractor-trailers in a port environment, understands port procedures, and is committed to delivering exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with all DOT and company regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a Class A commercial vehicle to transport containers between the ports, rail yards, warehouses, and customer locations.
  • Pick up and deliver containers in accordance with dispatch schedules and customer requirements.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, CHP, and company safety regulations.
  • Verify container numbers, seals, and shipping documentation for accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch regarding delivery status, delays, or equipment issues.
  • Secure cargo and equipment according to company and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate electronic logs (ELDs), inspection reports, and delivery documentation.
  • Operate safely in busy port terminals while following terminal rules and procedures.
  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, terminal personnel, and vendors.
Qualifications
  • Valid California Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Class A driving experience preferred.
  • Previous port or drayage experience is preferred.
  • Valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required.
  • Valid Clean Truck Program registration (if applicable).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain port access credentials.
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass DOT drug screening and background check.
  • Knowledge of DOT Hours of Service regulations and ELD systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform routine vehicle inspections.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
  • Familiarity with container terminals, chassis operations, and drayage logistics.
  • Strong communication and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting delivery schedules.
