Job description

Position Overview
The company driver is responsible for delivering hazardous bulk liquid materials to various customers safely and on time, while providing excellent customer service.
Major Responsibilities
  • Operates VTC equipment, including tractors and trailers on company property, on public highways and at customer facilities to haul liquid or dry bulk products.
  • Uses VTC equipment to transload products from rail cars to tank trucks and shipping containers and to unload at customer facilities.
  • Completes loads on time, accurately, and on schedule
  • Keeps all equipment, such as fittings, compressors, and pumps, clean and in good order. Schedules maintenance for equipment as needed. Reports all maintenance issues properly.
  • Accurately and legibly completes all paperwork, logs, VIRs, truck tickets, etc. and submits them in an orderly and organized fashion according to company policies.
  • Communicates all issues with dispatchers. Stays in touch, easy to contact.
  • Follows all SOPs to make sure loads are completed correctly and safely without contamination, spills, or other incidents.
  • Uses various measuring equipment to load correct volumes.
  • Reads and interprets paperwork, such as load orders, accurately.
  • Maintains accurate records of work.
  • Communicates work schedules with other departments.
  • Operates vehicles safely and in compliance with all laws and company policies.
  • Maintains all licenses and permits as required

The following competencies are necessary to succeed in this position:
  • At least 3 years of driving as a professional commercial driver, hauling hazmat products, preferably bulk liquid
  • Able to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing. Writes legibly.
  • Extremely accurate and detail oriented. Does not overlook things and make errors. Able to read and interpret complex paperwork and other data, such as chemical names, order numbers, and rail car numbers.
  • Organized. Doesn't forget things.
  • Able to handle shifting priorities and constantly changing conditions.
  • Able to work effectively on flexible and varying work schedules.
  • Team player. Able to get along well with coworkers, loaders, mechanics and supervisors. Able to settle disagreements professionally and productively.
  • Operates with a strong safety orientation. Uses all protective equipment all the time, follows SOPs, and manages risks so that incidents are prevented.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy hoses, fittings, and other equipment. Able to crawl underneath as well as climb on top of rail cars and tankers. Able to stand for long periods.
  • High level of initiative. Takes the lead in making improvements to the operation and in getting things fixed as they break down.
  • Personable. Represents the company as a professional at all times. Is the face of the company at customer locations.
  • Able to work out-of-doors and to tolerate extreme weather conditions, such as rain, heat, or cold.
