Job description

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies, maintaining the pool in accordance with the standards set forth by the Aquatics Department and the Georgia Health Department.
RESPONSIBILIITES (including, but not limited to):
  • Maintain schedules for aquatics staff for all shifts including opening and closing responsibility.
  • Development and maintain all aquatic programming and initiatives and create and maintain program calendars and schedules.
  • Assure day-to-day compliance with all programs as well as maintaining applicable certification standards.
  • Adhere to and enforce rules and regulations of the YMCA and aquatics department, including maintaining pool's chemical balance (in support of the Certified Pool Operator).
  • Comply with all YMCA and Health Department standards and ensure Pool cleanliness with aquatics staff.
  • Report any mechanical needs to Branch Executive and/or support services.
  • Check and record pool chemistry and discuss related chemistry or mechanical concerns with Branch Executive and support services.
  • Train staff in proper emergency policies and procedures through regular in-services.
  • Always maintain constant surveillance of the water and the deck.
  • Complete any incident reports properly and turning them into the Branch Leadership.
  • Give 100% attention to the patrons and operation of the pool area.
  • Address questions and concerns of YMCA members with exceptional service and ensures adequate follow through in a timely manner.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings, trainings, and events.
  • Beware of and follow all aquatic department policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate degree in public administration, exercise science or related field OR High school diploma and 1+ years of aquatics experience
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Current lifeguard certification
  • Certified Pool Operator (within 6 months of hire).
  • Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and Oxygen (02) Training, and First Aid/CPR training within 30 days of hire
  • Maintain certification or re-certification and/or by taking CEC's
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Effective problem-solving skills, multi-tasking, and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service experience/standards
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Y-USA Leader Certification (within 90 days of hire)
  • Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility
  • The ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner, holding true to a commitment to the YMCA's values, philosophies, and ideals

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience in aquatics leadership role
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, ASHI Instructor and/or YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer Certification
