Position Summary:

City of Hope is seeking versatile and dedicated Clinical Nurses to join our Float Pool department, specializing in cancer treatment. As a Float Pool Specialist, you will be an essential asset to our team, providing skilled care across various inpatient units, including (but not limited to) Critical Care, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Evaluation Treatment Center (ER/Urgent Care hybrid)(ETC), Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), and Hematology. Your adaptability and commitment to delivering exceptional care will make a significant impact on our patients' cancer journeys. This opportunity is for full-time (3 shifts per week), 12-hour shifts, and is designated for the night shift (7:00pm start time). This position is also eligible for a unit differential up to $5.50/hr, shift differential (nights) up to $6.50/hr, and weekend differential up to $15.60/hr. 

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Monitor, assess, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment.
  • Provide immediate post-anesthesia care, including airway management, pain control, hemodynamic monitoring, and discharge readiness assessments.
  • Care for critically ill patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive medications, mechanical ventilation, and continuous cardiac monitoring.
  • Assess and manage oncology-related urgent care conditions including: Febrile neutropenia, sepsis, pain crises, dehydration, chemotherapy-related complications, electrolyte abnormalities, respiratory distress, etc...

  • Administer medications, blood products, intravenous therapies, and emergency interventions according to established standards.
  • Initiate and maintain central venous access devices, including PICCs, implanted ports, and central lines.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, rehabilitation services, case management, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, procedures, and discharge instructions.
  • Document nursing assessments, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes accurately within the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in rapid response events, code situations, and emergency stabilization when indicated.
  • Float between assigned departments based on daily operational and patient care needs.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in nursing is required
  • Current California RN license
  • A minimum of three (3) years related experience, preferred background in oncology nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a caring and empathetic demeanor
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical setting
