THEA 143 Stagecraft Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:25 AM- 1:35 PM in the Spring and Fall semester. This course has 3 lecture and 3 lab units.

Bachelor's degree in any discipline AND two years of professional experience

Associate degree in any discipline AND six years of professional experience

Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.

Demonstrated expertise in both the theoretical and practical application of traditional and contemporary stagecraft principles. Employ and teach a dynamic lecture/laboratory format integrated with project-based learning to deliver comprehensive instruction across a wide range of scenic design and construction disciplines, including:

  • Theatrical Safety
  • Theatre Architecture
  • Hardware and Fastening Systems
  • Scenic Materials
  • Scenery Construction: Flats, Platforms, and Step Units
  • Scenery Movement: Decks, Wagons, Turntables, and Slipstages

  • Rope Work: Knots and Splicing Techniques
  • Scenic Finishes and Surface Treatments

Understanding of CTE program objectives with a robust background in theatrical video and projections work at a theme park or entertainment venue.

LMS experience/training (Canvas).
Detailed experience teaching technical theatre courses, especially introductory classes, with innovative teaching practices supporting success and retention of women, students of color and students with disabilities.
Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or community leaders in programs and initiatives that are specifically designed to assist historically underrepresented students achieve their educational goals.
