What does a pool designer do?

A pool designer specializes in creating customized swimming pool plans that fit the client's needs, preferences, and the available space. They consider aesthetic elements, safety features, and technical requirements, such as plumbing and filtration systems. Pool designers often work closely with architects, landscapers, and builders to ensure the design is feasible and blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Their responsibilities may also include selecting materials, preparing 3D renderings, and guiding clients through the design and construction process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pool designer?

To thrive as a Pool Designer, you need expertise in landscape architecture, spatial planning, and construction principles, often supported by a relevant degree or technical training. Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD, 3D modeling tools, and knowledge of local building codes are typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong client communication skills help deliver custom, functional, and aesthetically pleasing pool projects. These skills are crucial to ensure safe, appealing, and regulation-compliant pool designs that meet client expectations.

What are some common challenges faced by pool designers during the design and construction phases?

Pool designers often encounter challenges such as working with irregular or limited outdoor spaces, adhering to local building codes and safety regulations, and balancing client preferences with budget constraints. Coordination with contractors, landscapers, and engineers is also crucial to ensure the design is feasible and can be implemented as planned. Additionally, pool designers must stay updated on the latest materials and technologies to create safe, sustainable, and attractive pools that meet client expectations.

What is the difference between Pool Design vs Pool Construction?

AspectPool DesignPool Construction
Primary FocusCreating the visual and functional plans for a pool, including layout, aesthetics, and featuresBuilding the pool according to the design plans, including excavation, plumbing, and finishing
Required SkillsDesign skills, knowledge of pool systems, creativity, CAD proficiencyConstruction skills, knowledge of materials, plumbing, and safety standards
Work EnvironmentDesign studios, client meetings, on-site inspectionsConstruction sites, outdoor environments, physical labor

Pool Design involves planning and visualizing the pool's appearance and functionality, while Pool Construction focuses on physically building the pool based on those plans. Both roles are essential in creating a successful swimming pool project, but they require different skill sets and certifications.

Do you need a degree to design pools?

Pool designers typically do not need a formal degree but should have knowledge of pool construction, design principles, and local building codes. Many professionals gain skills through technical training, certifications, or apprenticeships, and proficiency in design software is often beneficial.

What are the latest pool design trends?

Pool designers are increasingly incorporating naturalistic shapes, infinity edges, and eco-friendly features like energy-efficient pumps and sustainable materials. Modern trends also include smart technology integration for automation and customizable lighting to enhance aesthetics and functionality.

Job description

Description:

More than a decade ago, Ledge introduced America to the first-in pool chaise and modern design forward furniture for a more compelling outdoor living experience. Today the award-winning brand is recognized as the in-pool and poolside leader, adopted by discerning homeowners and five star resort and residential properties around the world.

Our continued success is very much a consequence of our team members, the Ledge culture of collaboration and innovation, and our unwavering belief in the importance of design distinction in everything we do.

Job Overview:

At Ledge, we believe outdoor spaces are not just extensions of the home—they're living works of art. As pioneers in the premium in-pool and poolside product design space, our mission is simple yet powerful: to help our customers manifest their identity by elevating their approach to outdoor living.

The Marketplace Operations Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end order flow across key marketplace channels, including Amazon, Wayfair, and Costco. This role ensures accurate, timely order fulfillment while maintaining strong marketplace performance metrics and account health. In addition to daily operations, this position plays a critical role in advancing system automation through EDI and API integrations, improving efficiency, scalability, and data accuracy across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Order Flow Management: Own end-to-end order processing within marketplace portals, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with internal systems.
  2. Fulfillment Coordination: Partner closely with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure on-time shipment of oversized products and resolve discrepancies, delays, or cancellations.
  3. Marketplace Inventory Management: Oversee Amazon FBA inventory levels, replenishment planning, and seasonal demand readiness to minimize out-of-stock risk.
  4. Systems Integration & Automation: Lead and support EDI/API implementations, improving automation of purchase orders, advance ship notices (ASN), and inventory synchronization.
  5. Compliance & Performance Monitoring: Track marketplace vendor metrics, proactively address risks, and prevent chargebacks, late shipments, or account penalties.
  6. Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot order, inventory, and data transmission issues to ensure seamless flow from marketplace to ERP systems.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Orders are processed accurately and on time, with minimal manual intervention
  • Marketplace performance metrics (infraction rate, fulfillment latency, in-stock rates) consistently meet or exceed targets
  • EDI/API automation is expanded and optimized, reducing manual workload and errors
  • Inventory levels are proactively managed, resulting in low out-of-stock rates during peak seasons
  • Shipping issues and discrepancies are resolved quickly, minimizing financial impact and customer disruption
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration results in smooth, predictable operations across teams
Requirements:
  • 2–5+ years in operations, supply chain, logistics, or marketplace/e-commerce operations
  • Experience working with major marketplaces (Amazon FBA&FBM, Wayfair, Costco, etc.) required
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (NetSuite strongly preferred)
  • Experience with EDI/API integrations or systems automation is highly desirable
  • Strong Excel/data management skills (ability to analyze order flow, inventory, and performance metrics)
  • Understanding of order management, inventory planning, and fulfillment processes
  • Experience with freight/LTL shipping or oversized product logistics is a plus

At Ledge, we value diversity and inclusion and are committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all individuals. We offer a competitive salary, benefits package, and the opportunity to work with a dynamic team in a positive and supportive work environment.
