Job description

**This an hourly, tipped role**

Job Description: As a Server at the pool bar of The Umstead Hotel & Spa, the primary function of this position is to ensure guest satisfaction and comfort through food and beverage service.   It is the responsibility of the server to help maintain an impeccable appearance of the pool deck throughout the shift.   This may include set up and break down of the pool area as well as maintenance throughout the shift.

Job Requirements:

  • Report to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed & in line with all Umstead Grooming Standards.
  • Maintain a clean environment conducive to the service of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages as well as food.
  • Retain full knowledge of food and beverage menus.
  • Receive food and beverage orders from guests and ensure accuracy upon delivery.
  • Offer Amenities and Pool Services to guests while displaying knowledge of various surrounding outlets.
  • Maintain an attractive and safe environment by keeping pool and pool deck free of debris at all times.
  • Assist Bartenders and Recreation Attendants with service as needed.
  • Display proper cash handling skills daily.
  • Accurately account for all food and beverage orders in Point of Sale System.

Additional Information for Success:

  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.  Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.  In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
  • Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with The Umstead Hotel rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities.  Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors though there will be also be restaurant seating as well as cocktail tables outdoors on the terrace.
  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including excessive heat and cold.
  • Physical ability to walk and handle trays, food items, glasses, etc. in a safe and constructive manner for at least 4 hours at a time.  
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near and color vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Ability to use hotel point-of-sale computer systems.
