Job description

Poly Prep seeks a Seasonal Boys' Varsity Soccer Head Coach for the 2026-2027 academic year who is tasked with building a supportive team environment that promotes physical literacy, well-being, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This Coach is expected to guide student-athletes in developing their skills, confidence, and character while contributing to a positive athletics community at Poly Prep.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Coaching Responsibilities:
  • Support student athletes to maintain strong academic progress in all coursework.
  • Ensures that all athletes complete necessary requirements for participation in sports. All requirements must be completed prior to the start of practice.
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and the community regarding the objectives of the boys' soccer program.
  • Creates and implements seasonal goals and individual game plans, as well as, focused daily practices.
  • Collaborates with other coaches, deans, parents, and community members to maintain a positive atmosphere and open lines of communication regarding the boys' soccer program.
  • Requires that respect and sportsmanship be shown to visiting schools, coaches, players, and officials.
  • Requires acceptable and responsible behavior on buses traveling to and from games.
  • Establishes and maintains accurate records of all expenditures from the team athletic fund. Completes purchases of supplies or materials within the allocated team budget, subject to approval by the Athletic Director and Head of Athletics.
  • Provides leadership and coaching techniques that enable Poly Prep to remain competitive with other schools in the league and region.
  • Attends all required training sessions and events sponsored by Poly Prep.
  • Maintains current CPR and First Aid certifications, as well as any additional certifications that may the Head of Athletics and Athletic Director deem necessary.
  • Provides information to students concerning college recruiting education.
  • Manages the inventory, care, and condition of all equipment, uniforms, and school-owned materials to ensure readiness and longevity.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor of science or arts degree
Experience: Minimum 6 years' experience in coaching high school, club, and/or collegiate soccer teams.
Salary: $14,000

Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with and teach middle school and upper school students.
  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information, and respond to questions from students, staff and parents.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient with everyday digital tools, including email, cloud-based platforms, internet research, word-processing and spreadsheet applications, and school-based systems such as MS Word and Veracross. Experienced in using contemporary teaching and coaching technologies that support student wellness, skill development, and performance tracking.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction and of the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of adolescent students, as well as knowledge of effective behavior management methods. Demonstrated ability to participate in physically demanding athletic activities. Ability to meet timelines and exercise good judgment while working in a dynamic environment.
