What is a political data job?

Political data jobs involve collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to political campaigns, elections, voter behavior, and public opinion. Professionals in this field use statistical and analytical tools to help political organizations, candidates, or advocacy groups make data-driven decisions. Their work may include polling, demographic analysis, voter modeling, and tracking political trends. These roles are crucial for developing campaign strategies, targeting voters, and measuring campaign effectiveness.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in political data analysis, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in political data analysis often encounter challenges such as rapidly changing datasets, ensuring data accuracy, and managing tight deadlines during election cycles. Additionally, working with diverse teams—including campaign staff, pollsters, and technology experts—requires strong communication skills and adaptability. Staying updated with the latest analytical tools and methodologies is essential, as is maintaining strict data privacy and ethical standards. Overcoming these challenges involves continuous learning, effective collaboration, and proactive project management.

To thrive as a Political Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, statistical knowledge, and experience with data interpretation, typically supported by a degree in political science, statistics, or a related field. Proficiency in data analysis software such as R, Python, SQL, and data visualization tools like Tableau is commonly required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines help analysts convey complex findings to diverse audiences. These competencies are crucial for providing actionable insights that inform campaign strategies, policy decisions, and public opinion research.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: Simpli.fi is currently hiring for a Political Account Executive to join our Political team. This role is an opportunity for a motivated, client-focused professional with experience in political advertising or supporting political clients to take the next step into a sales-focused role.
You will initially focus on managing and growing a portfolio of existing political accounts, helping clients maximize the value of Simpli.fi's solutions and identifying opportunities to increase their advertising investment. You will work closely with clients to understand their goals, provide strategic recommendations, and develop strong, long-term relationships.
As you build experience and demonstrate success growing your book of business, you will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility for prospecting and net-new business development, with the potential to grow into a full-cycle political sales role.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
  • Manage a portfolio of existing political accounts, with a focus on retention, engagement, and account growth
  • Build strong relationships with political agencies, advertisers, campaigns, PACs, advocacy groups, and issue-based organizations
  • Understand clients' advertising goals and identify opportunities to expand their use of Simpli.fi's solutions
  • Educate clients on Simpli.fi's technology, processes, partnerships, and value proposition
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key client stakeholders, including Media Managers, Media Directors, Media Specialists, Media Planners, Account Directors, Chief Digital Officers, and Directors of Client Services
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing recommendations around ad formats, voter targeting strategies, and campaign objectives
  • Help clients navigate political advertising opportunities based on election cycles, campaign timelines, and budgets
  • Conduct client calls and meetings, online WebEx demonstrations, discovery conversations, and presentations
  • Develop proposals and translate client needs into strategic and tactical advertising recommendations
  • Identify opportunities to grow existing accounts and increase client investment
  • Partner with Simpli.fi's Client Success and other internal teams to ensure a strong client experience
  • As you develop in the role, take on increasing responsibility for prospecting, outbound activity, and net-new business development

YOU'LL HAVE THE FOLLOWING TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:
  • Experience working with political advertising, campaigns, agencies, PACs, advocacy organizations, or political clients
  • Experience in account management, client services, customer success, sales support, or a related client-facing role
  • Strong understanding of the political advertising landscape and the needs of political advertisers
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Ability to understand client objectives and translate them into effective advertising recommendations
  • Interest in developing a career in sales and business development
  • Ability to identify opportunities to grow existing client relationships and increase revenue
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple client relationships and priorities
  • Comfort learning and explaining advertising technology and programmatic solutions
  • Understanding of political ad buying cycles, election timelines, and voter targeting strategies
  • Familiarity with political data vendors such as NGP VAN, Catalist, L2, and TargetSmart is a plus
  • Familiarity with FEC rules, FCC guidelines, and platform-specific political advertising policies is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal teams
  • Demonstrated loyalty and commitment in previous roles
