Location: Mogadishu, Somalia
Travel: 100% OCONUS Deployment
Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI Required
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Cultural/Political Advisors to support U.S. Special Operations Forces in Somalia. Advisors will serve as trusted subject matter experts on Somali culture, politics, tribal dynamics, and government engagement while facilitating communication between U.S. personnel and members of the Federal Government of Somalia.
This position requires individuals with strong interpersonal skills, deep regional expertise, professional linguistic capabilities, and the ability to operate effectively in austere and high-tempo operational environments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Advise senior U.S. leadership on Somali cultural, political, and tribal matters.
  • Facilitate engagements with Somali government officials, civic leaders, and regional stakeholders.
  • Provide Somali-to-English and English-to-Somali interpretation and translation support.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, assessments, and engagement products.
  • Support operational planning through cultural and political analysis.
  • Maintain awareness of regional developments and advise leadership on potential impacts to mission objectives.
  • Coordinate and facilitate key leader engagements and official meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience serving as a cultural advisor in Somalia.
  • Professional fluency in Somali and English (ILR Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting U.S. military, Special Operations Forces, government agencies, or international organizations.
  • Strong understanding of Somali government structures, tribal dynamics, and regional political issues.
  • Excellent communication and briefing skills.

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience supporting USSOCOM, JSOTF, or deployed military operations.
  • Existing relationships with Somali government and community leaders.
  • Experience conducting political analysis and producing written assessments.
  • Familiarity with U.S. military operations and policy in East Africa.

Work Environment
  • Primarily based in Mogadishu, Somalia.
  • Periodic travel throughout Somalia, Djibouti, and Kenya may be required.
  • Government-furnished lodging and meals provided at the primary duty location.
  • Work is performed in austere and potentially hazardous environments.
