About This Role

Assists the Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment that supports the cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language development of young children. Assists in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and classroom activities that promote positive child outcomes and school readiness. Works collaboratively with families and staff to provide high-quality early childhood services in compliance with Early Start CT requirements, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards, Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) regulations, and agency policies.


What You'll Do
  • Assists the Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and classroom activities that support children's individual growth, development, and school readiness.
  • Assumes responsibility for classroom operations and instruction in the Teacher's absence.
  • Provides active supervision to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children at all times.
  • Assists in observing, documenting, and assessing children's development and learning using approved program assessment tools.
  • Maintains accurate classroom records, including attendance, developmental documentation, and other required program records.
  • Prepares and maintains a clean, safe, organized, and engaging learning environment that promotes exploration, independence, and positive interactions.
  • Supports children's social-emotional development by implementing positive behavior guidance strategies.
  • Fulfills Mandated Reporter responsibilities.
  • Builds positive relationships with families and encourages family engagement through ongoing communication, parent conferences, family activities, and referrals to community resources when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with teachers, support staff, specialists, and families to support the individual needs of children.
  • Participates in field trips, family events, staff meetings, trainings, and other program activities as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality of child, family, and program information in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain required credentials and enhance knowledge of early childhood best practices.
  • Complies with Early Start CT requirements, Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) regulations, NAEYC accreditation standards, agency policies, health and safety procedures, and mandated reporter responsibilities.
