Job description

Description The City of Redding is accepting applications for the position of Police Recruit within the Redding Police Department. We are seeking motivated individuals with a strong commitment toward providing excellent service to the members of the community. The Mission of the Redding Police Department is to work in partnership with the community to protect life and property, solve neighborhood problems, and enhance the quality of life in our City.

The Redding Police Department has a reputation as a progressive agency offering excellent training and career development programs and providing our officers with modern equipment. Assignment opportunities include: Patrol, Special Weapons and Tactics, Field Evidence Technicians, Field Training Officers, Investigations, Motor Unit, Canine, Bicycle Patrol and the Neighborhood Police Unit The City of Redding provides an excellent benefit package including health, dental, vision, life and long term disability insurance, paid time off and a CalPERS retirement program along with a great work environment. Applications will be considered valid if the following documents are attached to the submission: "Post Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB)" with a minimum "T-Score" score of 45 or higher and possess a minimum of 30 college semester units upon successful completion of the academy.

OR Be currently enrolled in a POST academy in good standing, with a "T-Score" score of 45 or higher, and possess 30 college semester units upon successful completion of the academy. OR Be currently scheduled to take the "Post Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB)" at the time of application, with proof of test results or test date uploaded to application. A "T-Score" score of 45 or higher will be required prior to appointment.

Please note: POST Certificates over two years old will not be accepted. We are looking for someone to Please view the job classification for Police Recruit to learn more about the duties performed. Police Recruit: is a non-sworn, probationary employee hired by the City who has not completed the basic POST Academy training as required to become a sworn police officer.

The City may send recruit officers to an academy or hire individuals currently enrolled in a POST Academy. The hours and days can vary while in the Academy. At the time the recruit is hired, the cost of the academy and other expenses associated with attending the academy may be paid for by the City.

Upon successful completion of the Police Academy training, the Police Recruit will be sworn in as an Entry-Level Police Officer with a wage increase plus PERS retirement, health and welfare benefits, education/POST incentive, shift differential, and uniform allowance. Qualifications we're looking for The knowledge and skills required to complete the required course work beyond the high school diploma and to successfully perform the job requirements. Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees.

Ability to read, understand, and carry out departmental policies, rules, instructions, laws and regulations. Ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, and reasonable course of action. Ability to write clear and accurate reports.

Ability to understand and follow directions. Ability to utilize the safe use and care of automobiles, motorcycles, and firearms. Education & Experience: Typical education includes a High School diploma, or equivalent.

Applicants must have completed and attach the "Post Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB)" with a minimum "T-Score" score of 45 or higher to their application and possess a minimum of 30 college semester units upon successful completion of the academy. Certificates over two years old will not be accepted. OR Be currently enrolled in a POST academy in good standing, with a "T-Score" score of 45 or higher, and possess 30 college semester units upon successful completion of the academy.

Must have 30 units upon completion of the P.O.S.T. Academy. OR Be currently scheduled to take the "Post Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB)" at the time of application, with proof of test results or test date uploaded to application

Shall be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship

Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment. Examination process: An oral board, performance test and/or written examination will be administered along with a Chief's interview. This recruitment will create an eligibility list and may be used to fill current and future Police Officer vacancies. IMPORTANT: Applicants must meet minimum age requirement of 21 years at time of appointment as a peace officer per government code section 1031.4 Per P.O.S.T regulation: The T-Score letter must be issued on Agency Letterhead and must include the score section breakdown (written, reading and total T-Score)

You cannot re-take the PELLETB in less than 30 days. The written test for Correctional Officer or Probation Officer are not equivalent to the PELLETB and are therefore not eligible for consideration from test exemption. Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon: Positive past employment references Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check Passing a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test Successful completion of a polygraph examination Successful completion of a psychological evaluation Positions within the Police Department require applicants pass an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.

Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
