Job description
EXO Inc. has been protecting public infrastructure across the U.S. since 2009. Without consistent maintenance and quality assurance, critical assets face a growing risk of failure over time. EXO delivers engineering, inspection, and remediation services for lighting poles, transmission towers, and other infrastructure exposed to ongoing wear from usage, aging, and environmental conditions. With deep expertise in vertical infrastructure, EXO builds on years of engineering design and fabrication experience across utilities, telecom, transportation, and retail sectors. This foundation supports a comprehensive inspection and asset management approach that addresses both new installations and aging structures requiring immediate attention. Recognizing that full replacement is often impractical due to cost and safety constraints, EXO developed its Ex-Tend approach to manage assets throughout their entire life cycle. From initial quality assurance to ongoing inspection and targeted repairs, this method is designed to extend service life and improve reliability. Supported by data-driven insights, EXO helps clients monitor asset conditions and make informed, strategic decisions. Position Overview: As a CDL Driver, you will be responsible for operating commercial vehicles to transport equipment safely and efficiently. Your duties will include loading and unloading cargo, navigating predetermined routes, adhering to traffic laws and regulations, and maintaining accurate driving records. You will be responsible for safely and efficiently replacing utility poles. You will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure the reliable and secure installation of new poles. Key Responsibilities: Vehicle Operation: Safely operate a heavy tractor-trailer combo rig with a capacity of 40,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) (F-350 with a 40 pole trailer), according to established routes and schedules. Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while driving to ensure the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. Cargo Management: Load and unload poles and equipment onto the vehicle, ensuring that it is properly secured and distributed to maintain vehicle stability and safety during transit. Route Navigation: Navigate predetermined routes using maps, GPS devices, or other navigation tools to reach destinations efficiently and on time. Monitor traffic conditions, road closures, and weather forecasts to identify alternative routes and avoid delays or hazards. Effectively maneuver equipment in parking lots with obstacles and limited space. Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure that it is in good working condition. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and brake systems, and report any defects or mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, mileage logs, fuel purchases, delivery receipts, and other relevant documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. Complete paperwork promptly and submit it to the appropriate departments as needed. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents, injuries, or property damage while driving and performing pole replacement activities. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and maintain a vigilant awareness of potential hazards on the road in the work environment. Pole Replacement: Safely remove and replace utility poles according to established guidelines and safety procedures. Equipment Operation: Operate specialized equipment such as cranes and hand tools to facilitate the replacement process. Ensure all equipment is maintained in proper working condition and report any issues to the appropriate supervisor. Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including electricians, supervisors, and customers, to coordinate pole replacement projects and ensure efficient workflow. Communicate effectively to address any challenges or issues that arise during the course of work. Customer Service: Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with customers or members of the public while performing pole replacement tasks. Address any inquiries or concerns promptly and represent the company in a positive light. Qualifications and Requirements: Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License MT/VT Crane Operator High school diploma or equivalent. Pole replacement technicians must have the physical strength and stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting, digging, and carrying heavy equipment and materials. Strength: Need to handle heavy loads, maneuver large vehicles, and assist with the loading and unloading of cargo, requiring sufficient physical strength. Agility and Balance: The job often involves working at heights and on uneven terrain, so agility and balance are essential to safely navigate these environments, especially when climbing poles or operating equipment. Endurance: The ability to sustain physical exertion over extended periods, often in challenging weather conditions, is necessary for completing pole replacement tasks efficiently. Coordination: Precise coordination is required when handling tools and equipment, as well as when working as part of a team to ensure the safe and accurate installation of poles. Mobility: CDL drivers should have adequate mobility and flexibility to enter and exit vehicles safely, perform pre-trip inspections, and navigate around the vehicle to secure cargo or conduct maintenance checks. Visual Acuity: Good vision, including distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, is essential for safe driving, reading road signs, and identifying potential hazards on the road. Hearing: Adequate hearing is necessary for CDL drivers to perceive auditory signals, such as horns or sirens, and communicate effectively with others, especially in noisy environments or when operating vehicles with air brakes. Mental Requirements: Attention to Detail: CDL drivers must maintain a high level of attention to detail to adhere to traffic laws, follow navigation instructions, and accurately complete paperwork. Pole replacement technicians must be detail-oriented to accurately assess the condition of poles, follow safety protocols, and perform tasks with precision to prevent errors or accidents. Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to quickly identify and address issues or obstacles that arise during pole replacement projects is crucial for ensuring smooth workflow and minimizing downtime. Concentration: The ability to stay focused and attentive for extended periods is crucial for safe driving, especially when navigating through traffic, adverse weather conditions, or unfamiliar routes. Decision-Making Skills: CDL drivers often encounter unexpected situations on the road, such as traffic congestion, road closures, or inclement weather, requiring quick and effective decision-making to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
