Poker Software information

What is poker software?

Poker software refers to computer programs or applications designed to facilitate, enhance, or analyze the game of poker. This includes online poker platforms where players can compete for real or virtual money, as well as tools that assist with hand tracking, odds calculation, game analysis, or strategy improvement. Some popular types of poker software include HUDs (Heads-Up Displays), hand history analyzers, and poker training programs. These tools are commonly used by both casual players and professionals to improve performance and decision-making.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a poker software developer?

To excel as a Poker Software Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as C++, Java, or Python), knowledge of game theory, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with game engines, database systems, and experience with security protocols or gaming certification standards is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork are crucial soft skills for designing robust, fair, and engaging poker experiences. These competencies ensure software reliability, compliance, and enjoyable user experiences in a competitive online gaming industry.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in poker software development?

Professionals in poker software development often encounter challenges such as ensuring game fairness and security, handling real-time data processing, and maintaining compliance with gaming regulations. Balancing user experience with anti-cheating measures requires technical skill and constant vigilance. The work environment is typically collaborative, involving regular communication with designers, QA testers, and compliance teams to stay ahead of evolving industry standards and user expectations.

Job description

At Bellota Labs, weโ€™re building the next generation of interactive gaming experiences. Our newest product, WPTHome, is redefining how players engage with the World Poker Tour by creating a connected, engaging platform that brings the excitement and community of poker beyond the table. As a fast-growing startup backed by the World Poker Tour, weโ€™re driven by innovation, world-class product development, and a passion for delivering exceptional player experiences.

Weโ€™re looking for a Senior/Principal Software Engineer to join our team and play a key role in shaping the architecture, design, and development of WPTHome. Youโ€™ll work alongside a talented engineering organization to build scalable systems, solve complex technical challenges, and help define the future of our platform. If youโ€™re excited by the opportunity to build a product from the ground up and make a meaningful impact in a high-growth environment, weโ€™d love to meet you.

Why this role is worth your time
  • Real product, real stakes, real players. ClubWPT Gold is a live, realโ€‘money (sweepstakes) poker + casino platform under the WPT brand โ€” not a prototype. Your code ships to players multiโ€‘tabling for real prizes.
  • Genuinely hard engineering. Realโ€‘time table state, multiโ€‘tabling performance, client perf budgets across desktop (Electron) and mobile, provablyโ€‘fair gameplay, and an event pipeline doing live hand analytics. This is netcode and lowโ€‘latency systems work, not CRUD.
  • Greenfield leverage. We're midโ€‘way through decoupling our platform into clean, independentlyโ€‘shippable services and a new backโ€‘office โ€” so a senior engineer has room to set patterns, not just fill tickets.
  • Small US team, high ownership. You'll be one of a handful of senior fullโ€‘stack engineers on Home. Scope is wide, decisions are yours to make, and impact is visible from day one.
  • Poker DNA welcome. If you play, you'll shape a product you understand better than most engineers ever could.
What you'll do
  • Ship endโ€‘toโ€‘end features spanning the Unity/C# client and backend game services โ€” from table UX and miniโ€‘games to the APIs and realโ€‘time state behind them.
  • Improve client performance and stability for multiโ€‘tabling on desktop and mobile (memory, frame budget, thermals, reconnect/resync).
  • Design and evolve realโ€‘time, lowโ€‘latency services for gameplay: table state, matchmaking, tournament flows, wallet/ledger, and event streaming.
  • Partner on fairness, integrity, and antiโ€‘cheat โ€” RNG correctness, handโ€‘history accuracy, and the analytics pipeline that watches for anomalies.
  • Build for a regulated, realโ€‘money context: work cleanly alongside payments, KYC, and geoโ€‘compliance systems without letting that complexity leak into gameplay.
  • Raise the engineering bar: reviews, testing, observability, and onโ€‘call for the surfaces you own.
What we're looking for Mustโ€‘haves
  • 5+ years building and shipping production software; seniorโ€‘level ownership of nonโ€‘trivial systems.
  • Fullโ€‘stack experience strongly in both client stack and backend services. You don't need both to be Unity/C#, but you must be able to go deep on the client and the server.
  • Handsโ€‘on with C# and/or Unity, or a track record that makes picking them up fast credible (strong C++/gameโ€‘client, graphics, or realโ€‘time systems background).
  • Experience with realโ€‘time / lowโ€‘latency or highโ€‘concurrency systems (multiplayer netcode, streaming, matchmaking, trading, or similar).
  • Comfort operating what you build: testing, observability, incident response.
Niceโ€‘toโ€‘haves
  • Domain: poker, casino, socialโ€‘casino, or realโ€‘money / iGaming / sweepstakes experience.
  • Liveโ€‘ops / gamesโ€‘asโ€‘aโ€‘service: shipping to a live audience with feature flags, staged rollouts, and A/B testing.
  • Client depth: Unity performance profiling, memory/thermal optimization, or Electron desktop packaging.
  • Realโ€‘time systems: multiplayer netcode, matchmaking, or state sync at scale.
  • Data / eventing: Kafka / Kinesis pipelines; handโ€‘history, telemetry, or analytics work.
  • Infra / CD: Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Jenkins.
  • Regulated domain: payments (PSP routing), KYC, geoโ€‘compliance, or fraud/integrity systems.
  • You're a poker player.
