What is a podiatry assistant?

Podiatry Assistants are healthcare professionals who support podiatrists in the care and treatment of patients with foot, ankle, and lower leg conditions. Their duties often include preparing patients for procedures, assisting with minor treatments, sterilizing instruments, and maintaining patient records. They may also provide basic foot care under supervision and educate patients about foot health. Podiatry Assistants play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of a podiatry clinic and enhancing patient comfort and care.

What does a podiatry assistant do?

As a Podiatry Assistant, you'll support podiatrists by preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments, and assisting during patient procedures. You'll also help with patient intake, updating medical records, and providing basic foot care under supervision. Collaboration with other healthcare staff, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and educating patients about foot hygiene are also important aspects of the role. These tasks help ensure smooth clinic operations and an excellent patient experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a podiatry assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Podiatry Assistant, you need knowledge of basic foot care, infection control, and anatomy, usually supported by a relevant certificate or diploma in allied health assistance. Familiarity with clinical tools such as sterilization equipment, patient record systems, and podiatric instruments is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a team setting are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure safe, effective patient care and support the smooth operation of podiatry clinics.

Job description

Catoctin Foot and Ankle, LLC | Leesburg, VA

Catoctin Foot and Ankle Center is a thriving, family-oriented private podiatry practice seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our close-knit team. We offer an exceptional work-life balance and the opportunity to train directly under an experienced, board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, focusing heavily on orthopedic podiatry rather than standard wound care.

Quick Look:

  • Schedule: Full-Time, 5 days/week. Clinic hours are Mon - Fri, 8 AM - 4 PM. Enjoy an outstanding work-life balance with no regular weekend clinic hours or on-call obligations.
  • Supportive Environment: Work collaboratively as a direct clinical extension of Dr. Cameron Phipps. Enjoy a streamlined workflow supported by a dedicated Medical Assistant who handles vitals, patient histories, and initial X-rays so you can focus on exams and patient care.
  • Location: Outpatient clinic in Leesburg, VA.

Practice Overview:

  • Broad Scope of Care: Manage a diverse patient demographic (infants to elderly) across the affluent Leesburg/Loudoun County area. See a manageable target volume of roughly 20 patients per day once fully ramped, with appointment times structured in 15-minute increments (30 minutes for complex cases).
  • Clinical Duties: Focus on ortho-focused podiatry, including sports injuries, fractures, breaks, and general foot care (complex wound care is generally referred out). You will handle walk-ins, see new patients, and manage general podiatric needs to help maintain the clinic's smooth daily workflow.
  • Mentorship & Autonomy: Step into a highly supportive environment where Advanced Practice Providers are deeply valued. Dr. Phipps has extensive experience working with APPs and provides direct mentorship, making this an ideal home for a clinician looking to build a long-term career in specialized orthopedics and podiatry.
  • Compensation & Benefits: The salary range for this role is $105,000 to $115,000 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits. The base pay offered will be determined based on relevant factors such as experience, education, and geographic location.
    • Lucrative Bonus Eligibility
    • Paid Time Off
    • 401(k)
    • License Reimbursement
    • Health Insurance
    • Malpractice Coverage
    • Flexible Schedule
    • Mentorship & Onboarding Support

Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted Virginia license (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Experience: Open to enthusiastic new graduates with a demonstrated interest in podiatry, as well as experienced candidates.
  • Attributes: Strong bedside manner, a relationship-based approach to care, and HIPAA compliance.
