Job description

The Atlantic is seeking an audio producer to join our podcast team. This position is an opportunity to be part of a growing department within a distinguished media operation and to develop and deliver clever and thoughtful cultural journalism. This producer will be expected to work collaboratively as well as to act independently and take initiative.

The right candidate will be skilled at identifying and finding ways into big ideas, and able to work quickly and efficiently to bring them to life in audio.

The role will at times include night, early-morning, and weekend work.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Brainstorm, pitch and develop new podcast episodes and seasons

  • Identify great guests (e.g., academics, scholars, researchers, authors, etc.),

  • Conduct pre-interviews and prep documents for hosts

  • Coordinate studio bookings and facilitate host studio recordings

  • Record discussions with hosts

  • Script episodes and produce article pages

  • Edit, layup, and score audio episodes using tools including Riverside, Descript, and ProTools.

  • Work with the Senior Producer to coach on-mic talent

  • Work closely with the Senior Producer and Executive Producer to manage production calendars and assign tasks to hosts

Qualifications of the ideal candidate:

  • 5+ years experience in audio journalism

  • Impeccable news judgment and an eye for argument and stylish execution

  • Fluency with Pro-tools (work samples requested)

  • Experience working in a recording studio

  • Openness to a wide variety of views and perspectives

  • A collaborative spirit, and the ability to communicate effectively

  • Experience on-mic is a plus

Salary minimum: $85,000; Salary maximum: $115,000

This position is based at The Atlantic's office in Washington, D.C.
