What does a podcast host do?

As a podcast host, your responsibilities focus on offering commentary that engages your audience, interviewing guests, and performing other on-air duties during recording. As a podcast host, you plan your show and research the topic under discussion, sketch out questions for guests, and work with advertisers to produce lead-in copy. As you are the “face” of the podcast, you engage with fans, press, and the public through social media, podcast conventions, or live recording events. Typically, a podcast host works in a subject with which they are already familiar, such as sports, technology, politics, history, or news.

To thrive as a Podcast Host, you need excellent verbal communication, storytelling ability, and a thorough understanding of your podcast's subject matter. Familiarity with audio recording equipment, editing software like Audacity or Adobe Audition, and podcast distribution platforms is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to engage and build rapport with guests and listeners help make a host stand out. These skills are vital for producing high-quality, engaging content that attracts and retains a loyal audience.
