POSITION TITLE: COMPLIANCE ENGINEER


REPORTS TO: Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor


POSITION SUMMARY:


The Compliance Engineer is the primary point of contact to ensure conformity to customer and legal requirements. The role includes reading customer purchase orders (POโ€™s) and customer specifications and prints when appropriate, as well as leading compliance and understanding certain FAR and DFARS provisions when specified. It also includes determination and/or verification of USML, ECCN, or EAR information, evaluation whether export license(s) are required, applying for and managing license applications, and otherwise leading the compliance effort with export control laws. In addition, this position includes handling both inbound and outbound questionnaires and surveys from customers, industry organizations and government agencies. This is a position supporting both EMP and R B Machine dba EMP Flight Components.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works closely with the sales team to ensure PO details are correctly flowed down and that the company can satisfy the quality and technical requirements from the customer.
  • Evaluates customer specifications and prints as required to ensure conformance through the production process.
  • Evaluates the POโ€™s with respect to the customerโ€™s terms and conditions and new FAR and DFARS provisions.
  • Maintains tracking of applicable FAR and DFARS requirements and updates as needed.
  • Verifies USML, ECCN, or EAR information provided by customers or determines such information if not provided by the customer, then determines if an export license is required, and applies for the license(s) as needed. May occasionally deal with the customer directly to obtain the necessary information.
  • Works in a cooperative manner with many departments of the Company to monitor and maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Monitors relevant industry laws and regulations that may change or increase compliance efforts.
  • Conducts periodic training and internal audits to ensure compliance.
  • Maintains and improves internal systems and general documentation.
  • Maintains a clear log of the disposition for each part, and a separate file of all details.
  • Responds to all inbound questionnaires and surveys, including customer- and/or government-required inquiries on matters, such as ESG matters, conflict minerals, chemicals used in/on the parts we produce. Manages non-disclosure agreements and periodic questionnaires sent to customers and vendors, such as for conflict minerals and forced labor.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Works independently, as part of a team, with minimal oversight.
  • Attends work in person on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Completes all tasks in an accurate, complete and timely manner. Being extremely detail oriented is required and must be willing to stop production if a non-conformance is identified.
  • Follows directions. Asks questions to clarify if needs more information.
  • Follows all safety protocols, helps others follow all safety protocols, and alerts Company management to any safety risks that are discovered.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Training and Experience :Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Engineering; prior experience working in a manufacturing environment or machine shop. Legal background a plus.
  • Reading and Comprehension: Ability to interpret and understand drawings and specifications, finish specifications, process sheets, and certain statutes and regulations.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to enter and retrieve data from company ERP system; proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and able to generate graphs and charts for presentations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and understand instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form by many internal customers, i.e., Accounting, Engineering, Customer Service, Legal and Senior Management.
  • Physical Demands: The employee is required to:

- sit, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor constantly,

- exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or

- exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or

- exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects

  • Visual Acuity: Ability to read blueprints, specifications, process sheets, customer orders, computer screens, and written communications.
  • Communication: Ability to understand and be understood in communications with others, including on the telephone. Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form, and to speak effectively before groups.
  • Working Conditions: The employee is subject to:
  • high noise levels from operating machines
  • physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
  • breathing fumes, dust and mist
  • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid

Estimated salary for this position: $70,000-$75,000, based on experience. Experience and/or education factors may increase or decrease this range. Benefits include Medical, dental, 401(k), PTO, and performance bonus potential.
