Your Opportunity
The Senior Plumbing Engineer is responsible for producing clear, accurate, and comprehensive engineering drawings and documentation for a wide range of building projects. In this role, you will lead the design of plumbing and piping systems-including domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, medical gases, and specialty systems-while ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and project requirements. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, coordinate with consultants and contractors, provide technical guidance to junior staff, and help maintain the high level of quality and consistency expected within our engineering practice.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Create and prepare designs for plumbing and medical gas systems.
  • Able to perform water, waste, gas calculations as well as product specifications.
  • Coordinate and prepare schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Design plumbing systems including water, sanitary, storm, diesel distribution, natural gas distribution, medical gas, and specialty lab gas systems.
  • Incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings and prepare green rating system documentation.
  • Assist in spatial coordination with architecture and other engineering systems.
  • Deliver projects across multiple delivery models, including design/bid/build, design assist, design build.
  • Process contractor submittals and RFIs.
  • Perform on-site condition surveys.
  • Provide mentoring and direction to junior members of the project team or engineering discipline.
  • Use technology and methodologies to create innovative approaches to building design.
  • Consistently strive to improve technical quality of work product by keeping abreast of new technologies, changes in building codes, and advances in the industry.
  • Work collaboratively in a cross-discipline environment to produce integrated project documents and ensure integrated design approaches & solutions.
  • Assist in the procurement of high-quality work; including marketing / proposal efforts and project interviews.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on projects related to Government, Healthcare, Higher Education and Science & Technology.
  • Maintain strong client relations as it pertains to project delivery and repeat business.
  • Perform and maintain thorough QA/QC on all phases of projects.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • Experience supervising a team of engineers.
  • Maintain technical competence by staying current on appropriate codes and technologies.
  • Proficient in the use of state-of-the-art tools for engineering design and documentation, including Revit.
  • Thorough understanding of plumbing engineering systems.
  • Expertise in an area of concentration, such as Datacenter, Advanced Manufacturing, Science & Technology and Healthcare.
  • Monitors & manages project budgets to ensure cost effective delivery.
  • Expertise in an area of concentration.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral);
  • Demonstrated thoroughness in design coordination and contract document development in plumbing systems for commercial and/or industrial buildings.
  • Demonstrated record of consistent quality work.
  • Able to work with little or no supervision.
  • Business development capabilities, commercial/financial awareness.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in sustainable building design.
  • Must have valid driver's license & a clean MVR.

Education and Experience
  • Professional Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architecture Engineering required.
  • 10+ years of experience in plumbing design.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
