Job description

Overview
Apprentice Plumber
Founded in 1935, Roto-Rooter is North America's largest plumbing, drain cleaning, and water cleanup services provider. Roto-Rooter operates businesses in over 100 company-owned branches, independent contractor territories, and approximately 400 independent franchise operations, serving approximately 90% of the U.S. population and parts of Canada.
If you are looking for job security, career growth, competitive compensation, flexible schedules, and comprehensive benefits with a reputable national plumbing service provider, Roto-Rooter offers a rewarding opportunity.
First year Roto-Rooter service technicians can expect top-pay, earning $55,000, on average. Pay increases quickly with each year of experience.
Roto-Rooter provides an initial 12 weeks of paid training plus continual training in our plumbing school. You'll earn while you learn the trade, and we'll guide you through the plumber licensing process to help you advance.
Responsibilities
  • Roto-Rooter plumbing apprentices/drain service technicians use their skills to provide solutions to plumbing and drain problems.
  • A service call begins with diagnosing problems then providing cost estimates to close the sale.
  • Perform sewer and drain cleaning services for customers utilizing specialized Roto-Rooter equipment and tools.
  • Document estimates and invoices, both in writing and on a provided smartphone.
  • Collect monetary payment and move on to the next service call.
  • Engage in direct interactions with vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly.
  • Conduct extensive driving to customer locations in a timely and professional manner.
  • Enter customers' residences to deliver reliable service while resolving plumbing issues.

Requirements
  • A valid driver's license
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A mechanical aptitude is desirable, but prior plumbing experience is not necessary.

Service technicians are paid an hourly rate of $17.81 during training. After training, they are paid an hourly rate at or above the minimum wage for all hours worked. The hourly pay rate may vary, depending on whether the pay is for base pay paid at the employee's base hourly rate (minimum wage), or administrative pay for administrative hours worked (between minimum wage and $70.19). Service technicians also have the potential to earn commissions at the rate of 16-22% of revenue depending on the revenue category. Commissions ranging from $10 to $155 can also be earned for selling products and treatments.
Qualified applications with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment in accordance with the Los Angeles County Fair Change Ordinance for Employers and the California Fair Chance Act.
