Position Summary:

Perform skilled plumbing work in the installation, repair, maintenance, and inspection of water, gas, and sewer systems across district facilities. Ensure plumbing systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with state and local codes to maintain a healthy environment for students and staff.

Qualifications: 

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid Texas Journeyman Plumber License issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months).

 Experience:

Minimum of four (4) years of verifiable experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair.
Experience in a public school district, government agency, or commercial facility preferred.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:
Knowledge of plumbing codes, safety regulations, and proper installation/repair techniques.
Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
Skill in diagnosing plumbing issues and performing corrective repairs efficiently.
Familiarity with boiler systems, irrigation systems, and backflow prevention devices.
Ability to use power tools, pipe threading and soldering equipment, and other trade tools safely.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with staff, contractors, and supervisors.
Ability to perform work independently and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Plumbing Installation and Repair
Install, maintain, and repair water supply lines, drainage systems, gas piping, fixtures, and related equipment in all district buildings and facilities.
Detect and repair leaks, clogged drains, and malfunctioning valves or regulators.
Replace or repair sinks, toilets, urinals, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, pumps, and other plumbing fixtures.
Install and service gas and water meters, backflow preventers, and safety valves.
Ensure all work meets or exceeds applicable plumbing codes and district standards.
Preventive Maintenance
Conduct routine inspections of plumbing systems to identify issues before failures occur.
Maintain service logs and records of completed repairs, parts used, and time expended.
Monitor and maintain hot water heaters, boilers, and circulation systems for efficiency and safety.
Participate in preventive maintenance programs, recommending system improvements as needed.
Safety and Compliance
Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Comply with local, state, and federal plumbing codes and district policies.
Report unsafe conditions or major repair needs immediately to the Director of Maintenance.
Maintain accurate documentation for compliance inspections, testing, and certifications (e.g., backflow tests).
Collaboration and Support
Work cooperatively with other trades (HVAC, electrical, carpentry) to complete projects efficiently.
Assist with emergency maintenance calls and participate in on-call rotation as assigned.
Support campus maintenance requests, prioritizing work orders in coordination with the maintenance supervisor.
Assist in planning and estimating labor and materials for renovation or new construction projects.
Equipment Used
Pipe cutters, threading machines, soldering torches, power drills, wrenches, hydro-jetting machines, backflow testing kits, augers, and other plumbing trade tools.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and working in confined spaces.
Exposure to hot, cold, and noisy environments, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
May be required to respond to emergency calls after hours, on weekends, or holidays.
This is a 260-day contract position.
