Job description

An established manufacturing facility in Pueblo, Colorado is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer to join their team. This role is responsible for developing and improving industrial processes, as well as designing new process equipment or modifying existing systems within a highly automated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support production and maintenance operations within a highly automated manufacturing plant

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems (hardware and software) to improve production efficiency, product quality, equipment performance, energy consumption, reduce downtime, and enhance overall process automation

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of plant process control systems and their impact across the production line

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and enhance programmable logic controllers (PLC) and human-machine interface (HMI) systems

  • Recommend and implement improvements to optimize production processes and equipment reliability

  • Design and monitor performance indicators and integrate control systems with company information systems

  • Provide ongoing maintenance support and resolve process control system issues, taking ownership through final resolution

  • Develop requirement specifications, high-level system designs, and architecture documentation related to production control systems

  • Support and manage automation and controls-related projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automated Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field

  • 5+ years of relevant automation or controls engineering experience in an industrial environment

  • Experience working with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Fanuc, Modicon, or similar systems, as well as variable frequency drives (VFDs)

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Project, and PowerPoint

  • Proven teamwork, communication (written and verbal), organizational, and administrative skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Must be available to be on call and assist personnel during emergencies or critical business needs
