What is a Playwright Automation?

A Playwright Automation job involves using Microsoft's Playwright framework to automate web application testing. Professionals in this role write scripts to simulate user interactions, verify application functionality, and ensure cross-browser compatibility. They work closely with developers and QA teams to create reliable, efficient, and scalable test automation suites. This helps improve software quality by identifying bugs early in the development cycle.

What are some typical challenges faced in a Playwright Automation role and how is support provided?

One common challenge in Playwright Automation is maintaining test stability amidst frequent application updates, which can introduce breaking changes to test scripts. Teams often address this by fostering a collaborative environment where automation engineers, developers, and manual testers work closely to quickly identify and resolve issues. Regular code reviews, up-to-date documentation, and ongoing training on new Playwright features also help mitigate obstacles. You’ll benefit from a supportive team structure that values continuous learning and open communication, making it easier to overcome hurdles and advance your automation expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Playwright Automation position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Playwright Automation specialist, you need strong programming skills (primarily in JavaScript or TypeScript), foundational knowledge of software testing, and experience with end-to-end test automation frameworks. Familiarity with tools like Playwright, continuous integration systems (e.g., Jenkins or GitHub Actions), and relevant certifications such as ISTQB can be highly advantageous. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication stand out as critical soft skills in this role. These competencies enable the efficient development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of test automation scripts, ensuring robust software quality and streamlined deployment cycles.

Is playwright automation in demand?

Playwright automation is increasingly in demand as organizations adopt automated testing for web applications. Skills in JavaScript, TypeScript, and familiarity with testing frameworks enhance job prospects in this field, which is growing alongside the expansion of web development and quality assurance roles.

Job description

  • United States - Remote (within location)

QA Engineer (Automation + Functional)

RhythmScience, Inc. · Remote (US, West Coast hours preferred) · Full-Time

RhythmScience builds clinical-grade remote monitoring software for cardiac care. Our platform is used by cardiology practices and health systems across the US to monitor thousands of patients. We're a growing Series A company building the infrastructure layer for cardiac care delivery.

We're looking for an engineer who owns software quality hands-on, from building automated test coverage to partnering with product on test plans before a line of code is written.

What you’ll do

  • - Build and maintain automated end-to-end and regression tests (Playwright) and keep them running reliably in CI/CD

  • - Run functional, regression, and integration testing across our web and mobile apps

  • - Partner directly with product and engineering to develop test plans for new features. You'll be involved early, helping define acceptance criteria, not handed a finished spec to validate

  • - Help define release readiness criteria and quality gates as the team grows

  • - Triage, reproduce, and clearly document defects; track quality signals (escaped defects, coverage, flake rate) and surface them to the team

  • - Improve our testing tooling and processes as we scale

What we’re looking for

  • - 3+ years in software QA with hands-on automation experience (Playwright or equivalent)

  • - Comfortable writing test plans from product requirements and owning them through release

  • - Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines

  • - Pragmatic and self-directed in a fast-moving startup. You build the process, not just follow it

  • - US-based with solid West Coast (PT) overlap for day-to-day work with product and engineering

  • - Strong written communication for clear, reproducible bug reports and test documentation

Nice to have

  • - Experience testing HIPAA-compliant systems or an understanding of PHI data-handling requirements

  • - API testing experience, or familiarity with EHR integrations (HL7/FHIR)

  • - Background in healthcare SaaS, RPM, or clinical data platforms

What we offer

  • - Base salary $95,000-125,000 DOE

  • - Meaningful equity at a growth-stage company

  • - Full benefits, remote-first culture
