Playroom Manager information

What does a playroom manager do?

A Playroom Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a children's playroom or indoor play area. Their duties typically include supervising staff, ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the play environment, organizing activities, and providing excellent customer service to children and their families. Playroom Managers also handle scheduling, inventory management, and sometimes marketing or event planning. They play a key role in creating a fun, safe, and engaging space for children.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a playroom manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Playroom Manager, you need experience in childcare, facility management, and safety protocols, often complemented by a background in early childhood education or a related certification. Familiarity with scheduling software, incident reporting systems, and child-safe equipment is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help foster a positive environment for both children and staff. These skills ensure a safe, engaging, and well-organized play space, supporting both the wellbeing of children and the smooth operation of the facility.

How does a playroom manager typically collaborate with staff and parents to ensure a safe and engaging environment for children?

A Playroom Manager works closely with staff to implement safety protocols, oversee daily activities, and provide ongoing training to ensure high standards of care. Regular communication with parents is also essential, as managers share updates on their child's progress, address concerns, and gather feedback to improve the playroom experience. This collaborative approach not only maintains a safe and stimulating environment but also fosters trust and engagement among team members and families.

About the Role

Bring your dog to work? That's right! Dogtopia, the industry leader in dog daycare, boarding, and spa services, has an immediate opening for an energetic, attentive, and deeply passionate dog lover to join our team as a Canine Coach. In this role, you will be the primary supervisor of our open-play playrooms, ensuring every pup has a safe, fun, and enriching experience. You will be the pack leader, maintaining order, facilitating engaging activities, and ensuring our facility remains spotless.

This person must love dogs-and, upon successful completion of training, you can even bring YOUR dog to work with you! What a bonus!

Day-to-Day Responsibilities & Pet Care
  • Playroom Management: Safely manage and supervise a playroom of dogs of various sizes and temperaments. Maintain a calm, positive pack environment while preventing and de-escalating any potential conflicts.
  • Creative Enrichment: Facilitate daily brain games, bubble parties, and creative themed enrichment activities to keep our pups mentally stimulated and engaged.
  • Health & Safety: Continuously monitor dogs for any signs of stress, illness, or injury. Perform routine nose-to-tail health checks to ensure everyone is feeling their best.
  • Exceptional Cleanliness: Maintain the highest standards of hygiene. You will be responsible for continuous cleaning throughout your shift, including picking up waste, mopping floors with pet-safe chemicals, and sanitizing playroom equipment to keep our environment pristine.
  • Effective Communication: Recognize and reward positive behaviors. Provide detailed updates to management and the front desk team regarding dog behavior, health, and playroom dynamics.
Qualifications & Personal Characteristics
  • Must love dogs! A genuine passion for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and personalities.
  • Strong understanding of dog body language and pack dynamics (previous professional experience is preferred, but we will fully train the right candidate).
  • Detail-oriented, quick-thinking, and emotionally intelligent when handling pet care.
  • Outgoing, enthusiastic by nature, and a strong team player.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of work time standing, walking continuously, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in a lively, high-energy, and loud environment.
  • Ability to work flexible days and hours, including holidays and weekends.
Core Competencies & Expectations
  • Consistent and timely attendance.
  • Ability to learn dog recognition and recall dog names/behaviors quickly.
  • Completion of all Dogtopia E-learning platforms and canine body language training.
  • Proper door control in all rooms to ensure the absolute highest standards of safety.
  • Proper record keeping for feeding, medication, and behavioral notes.
  • Participate and lead topics in team meetings.
