The Opportunity

Picerno-Giordano Construction / Sureplay is seeking a Commercial Playground Sales Representative to help grow our recreation product and playground sales throughout New Jersey.

This role is ideal for a relationship-driven sales professional who can work with municipalities, schools, daycares, hospitals, architects, engineers, contractors, and private organizations to bring parks, playgrounds, surfacing, shade structures, site furnishings, and recreation spaces to life.


You will manage a mix of long-cycle specification sales and faster-moving direct customer opportunities. Some conversations will be highly technical, involving architects, engineers, public bids, specifications, materials, and installation requirements. Others will involve helping a school, daycare, municipality, or private customer understand the best recreation solution for their space and budget.

During the initial training period, this role will require regular time in the Kenilworth office to learn our products, process, estimating workflow, CRM, and project approach. After training, the role will include a mix of office time, remote work, customer meetings, site visits, and travel throughout New Jersey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prospect, develop, and manage sales opportunities throughout New Jersey for playgrounds, recreation equipment, surfacing, shade structures, site furnishings, and related products.
  • Build relationships with municipalities, schools, daycares, hospitals, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and private organizations.
  • Identify new opportunities through networking, referrals, site visits, events, outreach, bid/specification tracking, and relationship development.
  • Present product and recreation solutions to customers based on project goals, site conditions, budget, timeline, safety needs, and design intent.
  • Support specification-driven sales by working with architects, engineers, and public-sector stakeholders to position products as equal or superior solutions.
  • Learn and communicate technical product details, including materials, coatings, fasteners, footing requirements, surfacing, installation considerations, and compliance-related requirements.
  • Visit customer sites to understand project needs, site conditions, layout considerations, and installation feasibility.
  • Prepare and coordinate accurate quotes, proposals, product information, and project details with internal estimating and operations teams.
  • Maintain strong follow-up throughout the sales lifecycle, from initial lead through quote, specification, bid, award, installation, and post-project relationship management.
  • Use HubSpot CRM to track leads, customer communication, follow-ups, opportunities, and pipeline progress.
  • Attend grand openings, industry events, networking opportunities, and project-related meetings when appropriate to strengthen customer relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure customer expectations, pricing, product selections, timelines, and handoffs are clearly communicated.
  • Complete Certified Playground Safety Inspector training within the first year to strengthen product and safety expertise.


Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in B2B sales, territory sales, construction sales, product sales, account management, or client relations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to communicate professionally with both technical and non-technical buyers.
  • Ability to manage long-cycle sales opportunities, follow up consistently, and stay organized across multiple active prospects.
  • Comfort learning technical product details and explaining them clearly to customers, architects, engineers, contractors, and municipal stakeholders.
  • Ability to read basic site information, understand customer needs, and coordinate details with internal estimating, design, and operations teams.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and follow-up skills.
  • CRM discipline and willingness to maintain accurate records, notes, tasks, and pipeline updates.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout New Jersey for customer meetings, site visits, events, and project-related appointments.
  • Ability to work independently while staying closely aligned with the internal team.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience selling into municipalities, schools, daycares, parks, recreation departments, public agencies, contractors, architects, or engineers.
  • Experience with playground equipment, site furnishings, shade structures, surfacing, outdoor recreation products, building products, or construction materials.
  • Familiarity with public bidding, specifications, municipal procurement, or architect/engineer-driven sales.
  • Experience using HubSpot or another CRM platform.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Communications, or a related field.
  • Existing relationships in New Jersey construction, municipal, education, parks, recreation, or A/E/C markets.
