Job Description
About us:
Burlington Recreation and Parks provide a diverse range of programs that enhances the well-being of our residents. Besides just being fun, Burlington's parks, programs and services provide opportunities to improve physical and mental health, develop our youth, focus on the environment and make a positive impact on our city.
What you will do:
This a part-time role within the Amusement Park area of Burlington City Park. The appointed individual will operate any or all of the 3 kiddie amusement rides located there, with on-site training provided. This position involves frequent weekend shifts from March to October, as well as morning and afternoon weekday shifts during the summer months (June to August). It entails working less than 1,000 hours per calendar year.
Examples of Duties
  • Daily Operations: Open and close assigned rides at the start and end of each day.
  • Safety Inspections: Perform daily maintenance checks on your assigned ride to ensure proper functioning.
  • Customer Interaction: Explain ride rules and safety regulations to participants in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Ride Operations: Operate one of three kiddie amusement park rides, including the Kiddie Boats, Kiddie Planes, or Kiddie Cars.
  • Safety Monitoring: Continuously oversee ride activity to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants.

Qualifications
Abilities:
  • Positive Attitude: Maintain an enthusiastic and upbeat demeanor at all times.
  • Guideline Adherence: Committed to following all directives set by the manager and the NC Department of Labor.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in amusement park or carnival/ fair operations is desired but not required.

Supplemental Information
Work Schedule:
Shifts will vary depending on Season and Day of the Week. Starting in January and going until June, shifts will be Friday afternoon, Saturday morning or afternoon, or Sunday afternoon. Starting in June and going until August, shifts will be morning or afternoon Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Starting in August and going until the following Summer, shifts will be Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday afternoon.
The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
