Job description

Duties: The Parks Worker I position performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance, upkeep, and improvement of City parks, green spaces, and recreational facilities. This position supports the daily operation of the Parks Department by maintaining safe, clean, and attractive park environments for public use. Collects litter and debris from parks, playgrounds, trails, and other public areas by hand; fills and removes trash bags (averaging approximately ten filled bags per person each morning). Empties trash receptacles and properly disposes of waste in designated dumpsters. Loads filled trash bags into City trucks or walk-up trailers and unloads materials at disposal sites. Mows grass and maintains landscaped areas using riding mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, and other groundskeeping equipment. Trims around trees, buildings, sidewalks, playground equipment, and park fixtures. Assists in the construction, renovation, and maintenance of park facilities, including walkways, playground equipment, benches, shelters, and related structures. Constructs and maintains flower beds and landscaped areas. Plants, trims, and maintains trees, shrubs, and other vegetation; trims low tree limbs as needed. Performs routine inspection and basic maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe operation. Follows all safety procedures, policies, and guidelines while operating equipment and performing job duties. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time. Valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record. PREFERRED: High school diploma or GED. Previous experience or training in parks maintenance, landscaping, construction, or a related field.

The City of Pasadena offers very generous benefits to all full-time employees. For example:

  • Employee-only medical insurance starts as low as $15 per month and the most expensive Employee & Family plan is less than $350 per month.
  • The City has its own medical clinic staffed with a M.D. and two medical assistants. Employees and their covered dependents over the age of 5 can visit the clinic FREE OF CHARGE.
  • Employees and their covered dependents also have access to Virtual Visits with a medical professional FREE OF CHARGE.
  • The City offers college tuition reimbursement of up to $3,500 per year.
  • As an employee, you will contribute a portion of your salary each pay-period towards your retirement and the City will match your contribution by 200%. Example, if you contribute $100, the City will contribute $200.
  • Civilian employees accumulate vacation at the following rates:
    • Less than 6 years of service - two weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 6 to less than 11 years of service - three weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 11 to less than 21 years of service – four weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 21 to less than 26 years of service – five weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 26 years of service and up – six weeks of vacation per year.
