Position Overview

Purdue Polytechnic High Schools (PPHS) is seeking a dynamic and student-centered coach to serve as the Assistant Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach and Head Junior Varsity (JV) Coach for the Broad Ripple campus. This dual-role position is responsible for leading the JV program while supporting the Varsity program in building a competitive, development-focused, and character-driven volleyball culture.

This role plays a critical part in developing student-athletes, building program continuity, and ensuring alignment between JV and Varsity teams, while prioritizing academics, leadership, and student well-being.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Junior Varsity Head Coach Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Lead all aspects of the JV volleyball program, including planning and conducting practices
  • Develop and implement skill progression aligned with Varsity program expectations
  • Create a positive, structured, and development-focused team environment

Game Management

  • Serve as the head coach for all JV games, including lineups, substitutions, and in-game strategy
  • Prepare student-athletes for game situations and competitive play
  • Ensure appropriate supervision and conduct during all team activities

Player Development

  • Focus on fundamental skill development, volleyball IQ, and team systems
  • Provide consistent feedback and coaching to support individual growth
  • Identify and prepare athletes for potential advancement to the Varsity level

Assistant Varsity Coach Responsibilities

Varsity Support

  • Assist the Head Varsity Coach with practices, drills, and game preparation
  • Support scouting, film review, and opponent analysis
  • Provide feedback to Varsity athletes and assist with skill development

Game Day Support

  • Assist with Varsity matches, including warm-ups, bench coaching, and supervision
  • Help reinforce Varsity systems, expectations, and team culture

Student Support and Mentorship

  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for all student-athletes
  • Promote academic accountability and eligibility compliance
  • Support the social-emotional development of students through athletics
  • Reinforce discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship

Culture, Safety, and Compliance

  • Uphold PPHS core values: Act as One, Nurture Student Genius, Start from Yes, Do the Right Thing, and Get It Done
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants
  • Follow all school, athletic department, conference, and IHSAA policies and procedures, as applicable
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and families

Qualifications

  • Previous volleyball coaching and/or playing experience required
  • Experience working with high school-aged students preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate with coaching staff and school leadership
  • Availability for practices, games, and team events, including evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a head coach (JV or Varsity level preferred)
  • Knowledge of volleyball systems, rotations, and player development strategies
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
  • Experience with program building and athlete progression

Compensation

  • Stipend based on experience and scope of responsibilities

Working Conditions

This position requires active participation in practices, games, and team events, including standing for extended periods, demonstrating drills, and supervising students in gym and competition settings.
