Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Shift Lead Mechanic to lead maintenance operations during an assigned shift in an injection molding manufacturing environment. This role is hands-on and leadership-focused, responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and maintaining safe, efficient maintenance practices. The Shift Lead Mechanic serves as the primary maintenance contact for the shift and provides technical direction to the maintenance team. This is a Night Shift Position.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain injection molding machines (hydraulic, electric, and hybrid).
  • Maintain and repair auxiliary equipment including dryers, chillers, loaders, granulators, and mold temperature units.
  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and prioritize repairs based on safety and production impact.
  • Diagnose complex electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues.
  • Troubleshoot heaters, thermocouples, sensors, PLC-related faults (basic), hydraulic systems, and mechanical components.
  • Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

Leadership & Work Coordination

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to maintenance technicians.
  • Assign and prioritize maintenance work, including emergency repairs, preventive maintenance, and planned tasks.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with quality and operational standards.
Communication & Documentation
  • Participate in daily maintenance and shift handoff meetings.
  • Communicate equipment status and maintenance priorities to production, quality, and technical teams.
  • Accurately document all maintenance work in the CMMS, including failures, repairs, and parts used.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO).
  • Perform work in compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture and hold team members accountable for safe work practices.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Coach, train, and mentor maintenance technicians.
  • Support skill development and consistent maintenance standards.
  • Ensure accountability for workmanship, performance, and safety.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required (technical certification preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing or industrial maintenance experience.
  • 2+ years of injection molding maintenance experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.
Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting experience (no programming required).
  • Knowledge of material handling systems, mold protection, and temperature control systems.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work on machinery for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools or components up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to work in environments with heat, noise, and moving equipment.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
  • Fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to machinery, noise, and temperature variations.
  • Must be flexible to work assigned shift, overtime, or emergency call-ins as needed.
