What You Will Do
  • Determines methods and sequence of work operations from blueprints, operations planning, engineering orders, specifications, etc., fabricates, laysup, assembles, installs, and mates honeycomb, adhesive bonded and/or composite assemblies.
  • Locates, fits, tapes and coordinates core and detail parts.
  • Trims, burnishes, files, forms, reforms, fits, locates, drills and reams to close tolerances, countersinks, counter bores, clamps, bolts and rivets on structural members, adhesive bond, and composite components.
  • Performs blind riveting and bucking.
  • Applies parting agent and performs bagging and vacuum blanketing etc.
  • Operates programmed and/or manually controlled drivematic-type machines.
  • Sets-up and operates resistance welding machines by selecting, mounting, and aligning necessary attachments and setting pressure power strokes, welding current and timing cycle as indicated by weld schedules and specifications.
  • Prepares test samples for shear and etch test.
  • Cleans electrode dies and tips to assure proper welding.
  • Prepares parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies for cleaning, masking, racking, stringing, and loading in baskets and/or racks.
  • Selects proper immersion time, temperature and sequence of dips, rinses and soaks as indicated by process specifications.
  • Masks and prepares parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies for protective coatings, primer and final topcoat paint.
  • Mixes primers and paints to specifications. Applies alodine, brushes, sealant, bakes or dries parts and assemblies, locates, and applies decals and stencils and performs cleaning process operations.
  • Operates drying ovens.
  • Greases caster bearings on all rolling stock such as bakers' racks and/or tools at the end of each autoclave run.
  • Burnishes and blends as required by specifications.
  • Issues and/or mixes plastics, plasters and other materials used in plastic/plaster tooling departments.
  • Cleans and prepares tooling surfaces for painting. Primes, paints by spraying and/or brushing various types of tools, gages, surface tables and gage boxes.
  • Determines center of balancing and gravity and weight of boxes and tools using shop tools such as balancing devices, scales, tape measures, etc. Seals and/or bonds seams, joints, fittings, etc. on parts sub-assemblies and assemblies.
  • Mixes sealants and adhesives. Removes cured adhesives, flash control tapes, etc.
  • Identifies all types of aircraft components by using electoetch or vibroetch machines, electric pencils, steel and rubber stamps, stencils, stencil guns and numbered tags.
  • Requisitions, receives, stores, issues, routes, and moves; locates, identifies, and follow-up actual and potential shortages of tools, parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies.
  • Cleans and preserves tools in a tool storage area using solvents, steam, and various protective compounds. Logs items in or out and moves, routes and/or delivers items throughout the plant.
  • Performs moving, storing, receiving, shipping, preserving, packing, packaging, crating, and issuing of materials, parts, tools, etc. in all areas of the plant. • Works from such documents as tool orders, shortage reports, and assembly/detail shop orders.
  • Keeps necessary records to reflect the status of all jobs. Operates non-licensed trucks, licensed trucks of not over one and one half (11/2) tons rated capacity, and trackless trains to move parts, materials, tools, equipment, sub-assemblies, and assemblies within the plant.
  • Operates non-licensed lift trucks of any capacity.
  • Connects and disconnects vacuum lines to bond jigs as required.
  • Operates overhead cranes in conjunction with the work described herein.
  • Receives incoming scrap and surplus materials as to type and condition. Segregates materials in designated categories.
  • Checks accompanied documents against submitted materials to insure accurate documentation and conformance.
  • Operates lift trucks throughout the plant to pick up and deliver scrap materials. Loads trucks as required.
  • Sets-up and operates various types of machinery, fixtures, tooling, and equipment such as rotary cutting machines, power driven saws, ovens, expanders, ice mills, hand routers, hand and power forming equipment, drill and grinding equipment, shears, hydraulic press, punch press, stretch press, platen press, power brake, roller, etc., for fabrication or rework of aircraft components.
  • Determines type of production aids required and fabricates production aids and necessary temporary tools such as router blocks, simple form blocks, etc.
  • Uses specialized machine attachments, standard tooling, and other machine aids.
  • Utilizes overhead crane and loading equipment in conjunction of performing noted work.
  • Work from blueprints, sketches, and other authorized documents.
  • Performs finish forming operations and verifies dimensional accuracy of parts.
  • Codes/numbers details sub-assemblies and assemblies with correct identification in proper location.
  • Inventories raw stock on hand and orders raw stock on a low limit basis as required.
  • Documents necessary daily records for Title V compliance.
  • May provide on-the-job training to other assemblers.
  • Utilizes and enters relevant data in computer-based data systems. Examples include SAP (or equivalent Enterprise Resource Planning System), Solumina (or equivalent Manufacturing Execution System) and RMAT (Riverside Material Tracking System).
  • May participates in Kaizen events on a voluntary basis.
  • Maintains good shop practices.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D. in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and obtaining information from blueprints, planning sheets, standard work sheets, and other similar documents.
  • Experience with safety practices and procedures.

The salary range for this role is $$22.95 - $50.98/hr USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
